Meet Tony Reed
I grew up in Houston, Texas were was very active in youth sports including
football, baseball, swimming, motocross and ice hockey. In Houston, ice hockey was not
the most popular sport yet I attended Okanagan Hockey for two summers and continued
playing it up until college. I also was an avid skateboarder and surfer. While
growing up, we skated many drained pools and skate parks throughout Texas.
In 1980, I moved to San Marcos, Texas, to attend Southwest Texas State University and study journalism and public relations. The San Marcos River winds through the town of San Marcos and is river is famous for the Aquarena Natural Springs and Ralph the Swimming Pig. While in colleg, I organized group trips to Jamaica and Winter Park, Colorado so I could afford to go on the trips.
I moved to Austin in 1983 and began an internship with the local NBC affiliate. My assignment was the University of Texas Longhorns football and baseball teams. I covered the 1983 National Championship Texas Longhorn Baseball team which included Roger Clemens, Calvin Shiraldi, Bill Bates, and Spike Owens.
While in Austin, I spent most of the time on the lakes wakeboarding. I fell in love with the lakes and rivers in the Austin area and lived there until 1998 when I was transferred to the Bay Area with SBC. I started snowboarding and traveling up to the Sierras to go snowboarding and I still go anytime a storm dumps fresh powder.
In October 2001, a sweet innocent little black lab came into our lives. We named her Sierra and now she is a feisty and energetic Splash Dog. My wife and I take Sierra up to Lake Tahoe to play in the snow and swim in the lakes.
