Hello out there,
We sure missed not seeing you all this past weekend in Auburn, after having participated the last 2 years. It was one of Snapple's favorite Splash Dog events, but due to the slow "healing" process of his Vestibular Disease we were not able to attend. I was told by Snapple's accupuncturist that Snapple probably had a stroke and the vestibular disease is a symptom of that. I'm to challenge him mentally to stimulate his brain (i.e. play with different toys, take him to different venues for his exercise, intruduce him to new commands/tricks, etc.) He gets around fine (with a slight "swager"), but sometimes has a difficult time "remembering" where he is or focusing. It could be a sign of dementia also. I was thinking of having him go to Auburn for just a fun little "splash", but when he tried wading into the lake with me, around a week ago, he rolled "belly-up" in the water (and he's been swimming like Mark Spitz since he was 5 weeks old) I think everything might be "upside-down" still in his world.
Anyway, I'm looking to adopt/rescue a 6 month old, Snapple-Clone type of dog (a Border Collie, Jack Russell mix), that I found on petfinders.com, so that Snapple may mentor her and continue to carry-on The Splash Dog experience in our household. Unfortunately, she (Mini) is located in Cleveland Ohio. I'm unable to fly back and retrieve her myself, so I've been "networking" in looking for possible way(s) to get her out here to the west coast. I was introduced to PilotsNPaws.com, where K9 loving pilots volunteer their services if they happen to be making a said flight from the pick-up point to rescure's destination. I haven't had a response as of yet.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows of any other possibilities.
I welcome any input, so that we can give Mini a happy K9 household that she may call home...and...so that we may see you all again at Splash Dogs event.
