Hey Everyone,
You all did such a great job recently in your possible choices for puppy names starting with the letter "C", I was hoping you could come up some other great ideas for a rescue 3 month old, black with white "socks", male short haired, Border Collie, Lab mix, who's due to arrive at my home, via an animal transportation service, Saturday night. His current (and his second given name) is "Petey" (his first given name was "Pancho"). I'm not too fond of either, as he dosen't look the "part" of either. I'm told by his current foster mom that he seems to answer to anything starting with the letter "P" or sounding like "Petey".
So what do you think, I need: A name starting with the letter "P"
Or...................................: A name rhyming with "Petey"
I greatly appreciate all your ideas for this future Splash Dog, who's to take "baton" from Snapple (as continues to try to comeback from his vestibular disease) in this fun K9 sport.

so my brain isn't working to good.....but I have an idea for a name....
My name for the pup would be.....
1) POGO
kind of sounds like Pancho, begins with a P....it is a name that will stick.....(pun intended) after being bounced around!
2) Sweet Tea (Sweety)
Okay it's a streatch.....would shorten it and just call him Sweety. Snapple and Sweet Tea! Two of my favorite beverages! Sounds like Petey!

Oh goodness....a new pup! I'm so excited for you Don!
Ok - to really help us out - can you provide a pic? I find it so much easier when you can see a pic of the dog and here a little about their personality....P is hard, maybe you could change it to and S and call it Speedy, sounds like Petey....

I don't have any photos of my new pup yet, besideds the ones that were e-mailed to me (and being total computer-dumbie, I wouldn't have the slightest on how to load them onto this site) but if you go to http://cuddlycanines.com and scroll down a few dogs, you'll come across Petey (name will be posted with his photo).
By the way...some fantastic names submitted thus far! It's going to be a tough choice, thank goodness I'll have until Saturday to decide.

Thanks to all of you, thus far, with coming up with some fantastic possible names for the new addition coming to our family Saturday night. I could never, ever come up with/thought of such creative names (Sweet Tea). There are just so many that I like, that I just can't even narrow it down to a few yet. I think I'll leave it up to you all there to narrow it down to a "Final 5" and then we can go from there.
And to answer Urs's question, if that might be a ridge up on his nose, that seems to show up in the photos...I really don't know, I'm to meet him, up close and personal, for the first time myself, Saturday night also.
Thank you all again and keep the names, or your favorites nominated thus far, coming.

Hey Don,
Yes always hard trying to figure out a name for a new member of your family. My top picks for the names already suggested are
Puck
Panzer
Sweet Tea (although this is a bit of a girly name for a boy dog)
Porter (can't go wrong naming a dog after a beer)
Pogo
Did want to say though that have had lots of fosters in my house and also seen a ton of rescue dogs in my time and really they adjust to their new name pretty quickly. I don't want to make things harder for you but really think you can go with whatever name you like best and you think fits his personality and don't worry about whether it sounds like his old name. Dogs are amazing with how fast they get used to their new name...so go with what you like.

Thanks again for all the possible names. I e-mailed this thread to my upcoming new addition's current foster mom, seeing if there was any that stood out that might describe him to a "T", as she's had him for 4 weeks now. She really liked "Pistol", as he's a real "spit-fire", always on the go, ready to go-off at any second. So I was thinking maybe "Pistol Pete"? (not sure if any of you remember the ex Star Pro Basketball player of years past = Pistol Pete Maravich).
I really liked Sweet Tea. If he was a female, that would be the name!!
I'm still considering Sobe and Piston also.
Peter Pan is cool, but not masculine enough I guess (a guy thing I suppose)
Checkers was very original.
Puck was right there, but I was thinking if I happened to be out in the neighborhood, and calling out that name it might be confused with something else...that eliminated Pitch too (which I also had a liking for...though I'm a terrible "pitcher" when tossing the bumper during competition
Pogo was great, but it sounded like "no" a bit (and in puppy training I'm sure I'll be using that word on occassion and don't want to confuse him)
Polo I thought was the one for awhile, since he'll be swimming (water polo) daily in the lake and in Splash Dogs, but, see above.
Pounce, that could be a fit...we'll see how he attacks (pounces) on his toys, etc.
Porter (like JJ said, can't go wrong with naming a dog after a beer)
What it probably all boils down to is...I'll really have to see what "fits" best after he arrives and "on-board" for a couple of days.
Anyway, I'm looking for advice out there on how to introduce a new pup into my household, with a couple of 14 year old dogs, who are set in their ways (I'm guess I am to). Snapple who is extremely possesive (of his "space", toys and attention...my other dog just accepts that) and the Alpha dog for the last 10 years. Do I introduce at a nuetral site?
I appreciate any and all advice.

When Nevada was brought home to my house at that time I had 2 very strong headed alpha's (since then one of them has passed on to the bridge :() They just put her in her place from the get go and she accepted it. It was immediate respect. I introduced them in the backyard. Many of you know that Nevada is headstrong and very alpha (a bit snappy) to the dogs at the events and outside of my house, however at home now that she is grown up she and my other alpha (who is close to 10) are respectful of each other and kinda share the alpha duties bossing around the other pups. I would think your older pups will teach this new little one the ropes and tell him who is the boss.
Good luck... I hope to meet this pup someday cause he looks adorable.
I like the name Pistol too... Cute

Thanks for the reassuring advice. Nevada's mannerisms sound very much like Snapple's at the Splash Dog events (and at our doggie beach) and that is why I was a bit concerned about the proper way to introduce a new pup into the household. I was worried that Snapple would totally intimidate the new pup and have him "shy-away" into a corner of the house. (The new pup's current foster home dosen't have a "alpha" in it's household, so he was able to do whatever right from the get-go.) I will take your advice and do the initial intro's in the yard.

Hi everyone,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you all with the name chosen for the new family member (I had basically all the names you suggested in mind when I first met Sobe and he just looked and acted like a Sobe from the get-go)Anyway, not having Snapple "in the Splash Dogs mix" for a long period, due to his long on-going battle coping with his vestibular disease (thanks to JJ for the advice at the Nevada State Fair about the idea of having Snapple wear a life vest, so that he wouldn't do the "spins" once he hits the water after a jump) all this made for not being on this site for awhile. Plus, my computer-dummy skills made for not having photos posted earlier of Sobe - A special thanks to Snapple's and mine's dear friend (and Snapple's long distance "mom") Cindy (aka Love4Snapple), for the picture taking and then the posting of her photos above.
Sobe is 6 months old today (hard to believe I've had him for just about 3 months now). The "introduction" went very well, alpha dog Snapple welcomed Sobe with open paws. Sobe's little "quirks", due to mistreatment in his previous living situation, have all seemed to be wiped from his mind now.
Maybe we'll see you in Scottsdale.
