Well we made it so we are going to Sacramento! Who else is going?

I hope this is a misprint!
The pool is 40’ long x 17’ wide x 3’ deep
I'd hate to think of the dogs hitting the bottom in only 3' of water...
Also - although they do allow 2 handlers on the dock, only 60 seconds of time to get your dog off the dock.

Does anyone recognize who the Border Collie on the front is?
None are close enough for us.:p

We're going - I'm pretty sure the pool's a little deeper than 3'-0", tho'. I hope! We had them put extra water in when we went to Vail last year.

I believe the BC on page is Capp AKA Cappuccino owned by Lindsey Hinds.
This sounds like a great event! Sir William and I won't be able to attend due to another event in Reno :(

Andy - I just sent you a pm - email me at sassygirl2171@yahoo.com w/the answer....
Sandra - will I finally get to see you? Brian is coming up to handle Gunner for me. It's my Birthday weekend!
We were torn as well between Reno and this event but...w/no A/C in the jeep there is no way I can go over that hill to Reno - San Diego was enough for me....so Sac won out.

Yes Urs it looks like we are going to hook up, but I think your cheating getting Brian up here! We are going to try and make both events. Here is how I think it will go...MickeyD will be eliminated at Purina on Saturday (how's that for confidence???) Jim will jump him in Reno prior to Saturday (keep your fingers crossed on that or we have to do a Dale Carelli (you know what that is Urs) Well hopefully he makes the finals on Sunday so Tinka can kick his butt one more time! On that dog! You just never know with the "King of Splashdogs" That's the new nickname for him with his new award! I wonder with all those "miles" he's jumped how much money we spent...oh God I don't want to know!

Brian offered to come up for this, of course being my bday weekend - I certainly wasn't going to refuse it! Heck - all I want for my bday is .....nah -he's married, just kidding Bri!
I love the King of Splash Dogs title! too cute - do you see how far the rest of us are behind him? Yeah - you don't want to know how much money you've spent over the years....lol
ForestGumpy - love it! We have a BJ-, jack russell, border collie mix who stands 14" at the withers, we're hoping to one day get her out there in those 20's! She's still figuring her and her handler out so w/time we hope to be up there w/you guys!!! MIGHTY MITES ROCK!
Of course our Staffy, who is 15 3/4" tall has decided he likes the lower placements, w/a top jump of 7 feet, lol!

Agreeing with Kim, anyone who has jumped at a purina event, the pool is notoriously short and shallow. This has been a concern for many years that has yet to be corrected. Good luck all. Will send good vibes from Boise.
I hope this is a misprint!

Unfortunately, the 3ft pool depth is standard for all Purina/Carsons/related events. We were told this at the FL qualifier where Duke placed 4th. The water depth was actually added to after a few handlers expressed their concerns, especially for verticle. However, it was an "exception water adding" and not something they apparently planned on changing permanently.

I wish I could come up and join everyone for the diving dog tour but since Phoebe can't jump, I can't justify the expense of driving up to watch. You guys all have lots of fun & we'll be with you in spirit! Good luck everyone, especially my nieces, Jasmine & Emmy. And all you Nor-cal locals- you guys rock! And do I even need to mention Brian? I think not! :)

But, I have serious concerns about this 3' deep pool. These bully boys are like flying cement blocks and I wonder how far he really goes down when he hits the water.
Anyone have any real concerns about their dogs (especially the bigger, muscular dogs)hitting bottom with their feet/legs?

We where just at the NJ event and had a blast. They treated us all very well. Shade tent, water and snacks.. We also got t-shirts. Not bad for the entry fee of just $20.00
The pool was no an issue. They had it above 3 feet. I didn't see one dog having issues with the pool at all.
top dogs this weekend where
Seven... GSP 26'4"
Colby.... yellow lab 25'10"
Grady... yellow lab 23'7"
And just because he almost made the top and he is such a little guy.
Forrest Gumpy Jack Russell 23'1"

Go ForestGumpy! Saw you guys on Letterman the other night! Very, very cool!
You should look into doing flyball w/that little speed demon...!

Forrest Gumpy Jack Russell 23'1"
That is huge and the proof was on Letterman. Take away ~1.5ft for the nose measurement and the dog is still flying with the big dogs! Run Forrest Run!

Thanks.. We are proud of Sarah and what she has done with Gumpy.. He normally jumps 21-22' when he is feeling well..
flyball is out of the question for this guy. We just had to stop terrier racing with him. He has trouble breathing when he gets to worked up because of his lymphoma. He is feeling great and doing what he loves though.

oh goodness... well as long as he is having a blast!
flyinggumpy
08-08-2008, 11:28 AM
He also does not like tennis balls.. or anyother ball other than when it's in Jitter Bug's mouth.. LMAO
Sarah is going to be training Jitter Bug for flyball.. He is actually faster than Gumpy and is a ball freak.

Everybody loves to see Gumpy Fly !!
In regards to the depth of the water. Seven is a big GSP and Rob didn't think there was an issue with the water depth.

We were at both the Letterman show and the NJ event. They use the same splash pools that every org uses and they were filled to the top. The entire set up was just as safe as any event we have been to, possibly safer. We recommend this event to everyone.

I just recently found out about the competition hopefully Ace will make it in. It would be nice to get back into the dog jumping game! Ace is always ready as many of you know!
Josh & Ace
Also having been in these events before, Ace has never had any issues.

What a pleasant surprise to see you on the board! I hope we see you at Purina. For those who have never seen this team jump you are in for a real treat!

Ace and I will be there! I monitor the events page and check on events nearby but with the baby it puts my priorities elsewhere. There have been a few events that I wanted to make this year but they always seem to conflict with something.
Ace hasn't jumped (in competition) since last April so we'll see how it goes, his last competition was when he started jumping 14's in the finals. Lets hope thats a fluke.
Has anyone received any details about how we get in and everything? They didn't give me any details in the email.

Just received this email:
Extreme Vertical at Sacramento Event
Monday, August 18, 2008 10:31 AM
From:
"Anna Lingbloom" <alingbloom@carsonevents.com>
Hi All-
Hope your summer is going well, we are all very excited for The National Diving Dog Tour presented by Oust and Purina to come to the California State Fair in Sacramento .
Just one change for this event:
We will now be having an extreme vertical demonstration event on Sunday at 3:00 PM. This is not a competition, but a demonstration. You can either let me know if you are interested in participating, or just show up at 2:15 PM on Sunday in order to participate.
On another note:
The heat in Sacramento is extreme, while we have a tent to provide shade for the dogs, along with fans and plenty of water, we just want to make sure that all participants are aware that it will be hot outside, and whatever you need to bring in order to keep your dog comfortable, please do.
Thanks!
Anna
