I just received the news from Pete and Lorry that Chief has lost the battle with cancer today. Obviously they are besides themselves. They have asked me to let everyone know as we all loved that team.
Jim and I first met Pete, Lorrey & Chief at the Sacramento event over 4 years ago with our precious dog, Cash. I would want to think that Cash & Chief are now holding their own competitions together.
Please join us in sharing some memories of this wonderful team.

Lorrey and Pete!

What a competitor, companion and a GREAT SHOW Chief was! I will always remember him with his duck call and great jumping height he always would get!

Chief sometimes had a little problem on the dock! He sometimes left way too early!

Just like in Life......Chief.....you left way too early!!!

We will miss you and remember you everytime we are on the dock!

Pete & Laurie, I am just sitting here completely numb, sad, and just shocked beyond belief. For once I don't even have the words to let you know how bad I feel for the two of you. If I could right now I would reach out and hold you both so tight, I am so sorry... Tinka and I have lost a great friend, hell the dog jumping world has lost a great friend. May you find comfort in the thoughts and prayers from everyone sent to the two of you.
Always in our hearts, Suzy and Tinka

I have always loved watching and competing with Pete and Chief, the first time I saw them was at my first Splash Dogs event, September 2005. I'd never seen a lab in that beautiful Fox Red color so he really stood out, but what really caught my eye was that dock routine...who could forget the duck call, that big Fox Red leaping 6 feet in the air and then the perfect sit/stay in anticipation of that bird!

Chief always had perfect form...I took this picture the first time I saw Chief. A few months later, I had sent this off to a friend and asked him to use Chief's silhouette in creating the Bay Area Diving Dogs logo.

Pete & Laurie, I send my hugs to you and please look to those wonderful memories of Chief and know he will always be with you. Chief was an extraordinary dog and Pete, the love you had for him showed through your relationship with him. I am so very sorry....

I was very, very sad to hear the news about Chief....

I know how much you loved him and what a very special bond you two had.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him...you and Chief were one of the most entertaining and fun teams to watch.

We never had the opportunity to meet you or Chief, but as a dog lover and a fellow human being, I am so sad for you and for the loss of what was obviously a wonderful family memeber. My family and I are thinking of you and are sending you our best.

Hey Pete,

My first memory of you guys was at that ever fateful 2005 DockDogs event in Long Beach that seems to always come up in conversations.

I believe it was your 2nd event. Chief was jumping great, but a little flat and in the 19 foot range. We got to work together on the measurement computer reviewing throws and dog eye level, and by the end of the weekend he was well over 21 feet, which at the time was a truly special distance.

In the end, I still believe that was the most exciting competition I've ever been to. If I remember correctly, there was a jump off between Chief and Ace (with Josh) and it was decided by one inch!

You were not to long thereafter voted as "Most Entertaining on the Dock" with all of the motivational antics crowds all got a charge out of. It was classic!

I guess when it is all said and done, one of the greatest things that can be said about a dog owner is that they gave all they could to provide the happiest, safest, and most fulfilling life their dog could possibly have.

Pete, this is especially true of you.

All the best...

Hello Pete

I am in shock after reading the news about Chief. I remember him in my first competiton + had seen the amazing jumps he could do and had hoped my dog could someday do half as well. He was truly a pioneer & one of the 'big guns' in dock jumping. He will be truly missed by one & all as a dock jumping legion as well as your BFF. I know he is up there jumping across the clouds and over the rainbow. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,

Marilyn, Phoebe & Dunkin

Sandra - just to clarify - the logo was created back in 2006 when we created the club...I just thought I would share the story of where the dog came from...

Fly High Chief...

Pete and Lorry.... my heart aches for you :( I am so so sorry.

Rest in peace Chief. I will never hear a duck call again without some sadness for your loss. May you hunt all the ducks and jump off all the docks you want over the rainbow bridge. Thank you for being an inspiration to Nevada and I. We are blessed to have met you.

I am SOO Sorry to hear the news of Chief's passing. What a great wonderful dog and always a joy to photograph. Whenever I talked to people about Splash Dogs, Chief was one of the dogs I ALWAYS told people about--what a joy to watch him fly. My heart goes out to you and Lorry and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Very Sincerely,
Howie

Chief's face stole my heart straight away, with that big head and droopy, hound dog jowls. The memory of him in his goggles will make me smile forever.

The two of you had a show all your own, and we probably won't see the likes of your bond and humor again. Thank you for sharing your friendship with us.

Long may you run, Chief.
