I have been trying to join up with the Phoenix group and am having a really hard time communicating with the person who is listed as the contact for them. Can anyone point me too someone who can answer a few questions? I have been trying for around a month now with no luck.

Thanks

pete,

I am a member of phoenix splash dogs. I know the lady you are trying to reach has just had a baby and i'm sure is very busy. There are a few members that go to a park in Tempe on Sat, mornings and practice. We do practice at a ladies house in Awathuke(sp?). But she is the one that just had a baby and I don't think we will have practice for a couple of months. We will be at Cynosports the weekend of Oct 31 in Scottsdale at westworld. You might be able to mmet some members there

I've also been tossing around the idea of looking into joining the group but there are several problems that have me dragging my feet.

One problem is I normally work Saturday mornings and I live on the northwest side of the valley in Glendale therefore practices might be hard for me to get to. I have my own pool and I started practicing with my girl this past summer but it is not currently set up with a dock. I possibly could build a dock if it is bad to practice from just the edge like we have been doing

Second thing is my dog is fear aggressive. I am trying to build her confidence therefore I am looking for a positive activity for her. She was a rescue and has been fearful since I adopted her about a year ago. She has come miles since the adoption but she occasionally gets spooked. She is normally fine with other dogs as long as they do not jump on her or try to mount her. She is a bit sketchier with human, especially tall men. She has never out right attacked someone but she has nipped at people if she feels trapped. She is obedient on and off leash. She will make every effort to escape before she nips. I do take her to the dog parks and she is fine there even though she is not overly friendly to other people. I did not know what the rules were with dogs with this sort of issue.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kim

Kim,

I'm sorry it took so long to write to you. I don't get on this web site that often and just got on just to check and saw your message. We do have practices in Avondale but they are usually on Sat. Practicing form the edge of the pool is a good start but you will want to build a dock. If it could be a little long to have some sort of a runway that would be even better. When we practice there is usually several dogs running around but they all pretty much stick to playing with there toys and jumping in the pool. However, there can be several dogs jumping in at once. If you join our club and build a dock, you might consider having a practice at your place with a couple of dogs (the calmer ones, like my dog) and see how it goes. At competition you are the only one jumping so that shouldn't be much of an issue. Hope this helps.
