There are a couple of us in the loop....but it is time for our community to be in the loop.....(this is why we support "Chase Away K9 Cancer!") Please keep Rebecca in your thoughts and prayers.......she needs our support!!

Here is Angel and Rebecca's story as told by her.....I did speak to my vet and she said it was a stage two mass cell.

She is a Blue Nose Pitbull who was found running down the street of South Central LA. She was picked up by the police and brought to the South Central Shelter. Someone had cut off her ears with scissors, they think she had birthed at least 3 litters of puppies, had a chunk of her tongue missing, bite marks all over her throat and someone had dumped chemical/acid on her back. She was underweight, her back was horribly infected and she as going to die. A woman named Tamika (who, I have since called to thank personally) decided that Angel (then named Gina) would live. They sent her to out patient treatment and kept her at the pound for TWO months, which is unheard of. She showed NO aggression to people or animals and loved to nibble ears. She honestly was the happiest when she could nibble somone's ear! A rescue group finally pulled her just days before they were going to have to put her down. The rescue group had her in foster homes for 11 months.

No one wanted her because people thought she "looked scary." She also had to have her knee replaced on June 12th 2008....the exact same day, my boy...Walter passed away(her pup died of kidney failure). Devastated and barely able to get out of bed I looked online for a dog I could foster because I couldn't take the deafening silence that was now my home...I looked into her eyes, called the rescue, met her and that was it. An Angel (now the name) had come into my life. She is the definition of goodness and pure love. People say me, "Angel is so lucky you rescued her." To that I say...it is Angel that rescued me.

OMG, At times I laugh when I read and see pictures of myself, my dog, my friends. At times I cry when I read someone put their best friend to sleep. At times I get encouraged when I read about 3 legged friends making it. At times I wonder why.. Now I just wonder WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP ??
Just one dollar to a rescue, any rescue will make a huge difference.
Do it today.

Kind of puts it all into perspective, doesn't it...

Don't sweat the small stuff,

Enjoy Life Today.

Well said, Suzy! There are many ways to help and money for the rescue groups is always needed. Fostering a neglected and/or abused Labs has really opened my eyes. People have been horrified to hear Cocoa's story (and Angel's is so much worse) and want the abusers to be brought to justice -- there can't be strong enough punishments for people who neglect/abuse animals IMHO. As bad as the abusers are, we see the opposite extreme in human compassion with those trying to rescue these animals. It's been wonderful to see the many people who are willing to open their homes to adopt and love an abused animal like Rebecca did. Maybe you have room in your house for 1 more?

Dave, thanks for sharing the background -- I hadn't heard of Rebecca before Sunday and now I'll definitely be watching for her! I'm glad she's raising awareness about animal abuse through her celebrity. It's so very sad that she is facing cancer though hope she found comfort and support in our SplashDogs family when she got the news. Whether it's cancer or other, our dogs never have long enough with us and I'm just glad that Angel got to experience love in her life.

Go give your dogs big hugs & kisses -- love every minute that you have them in your life!

Rebecca and Linda spoke today and Rebecca was going to be calling a highly reputable Vet Oncologist in Southern California today. Hopefully she will get some answers and be on the right track!!!

Thanks Linda for your support!!!

At times I wonder why.. Now I just wonder WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP ??

Everything helps from a bag of food to getting a dog out of the shelter minutes before the injection. Sorry about the injection word but that is the reality of dog rescue.

1. Transport a dog?
2. Donate MONEY?
3. Donate a crate?
4. Donate an x-pen or baby gates?
5. Donate a leash?
6. Donate a collar?
7. Donate a gift certificate to a pet store?
8. Donate flea stuff (Advantage, etc.)?
9. Donate Heartworm pills?
10. Pay the boarding fees to board a dog for a week? Two weeks?
11. Conduct a home visit or accompany a rescue person on the home visit?
12. Volunteer to do rescue in your area?
13. Talk to all your friends about adopting and fostering rescue dogs?
14. Donate vet services or can you help by donating a spay or neuter each year or some vaccinations?
15. Help organize and run fundraising events?
16. Microchip a rescued dog?
17. Donate or loan a portable dog run to someone who doesn't have a quarantine area for quarantining a dog that has an unknown vaccination history and has been in a shelter?
18. Loan a crate if a dog needs to travel by air?
19. Pay for an ad in your local/metropolitan paper to help place rescue dogs?
20. Make financial arrangements in your will to cover the cost of caring for your dogs after you are gone - so Rescue won't have to?
21. Make a bequest in your will to your local or national Rescue?
22. Donate your professional services as an accountant or lawyer?
23. Let rescue know when you'll be flying and that you'd be willing to be a rescued dog's escort?

The million dollar donation is opening your home up to fosters.

Our spirit is high for Angel's outcome. Due to the immediate love & support of the Splash Dog community supporting the cause I believe Angel is in really good hands and is going to pull this off.

This is what we believe in and we will not believe in anything less. Angel is a proven survivor of more than what she is being faced with right now.

We wish all the best for Rebecca to stay strong and determined. That is what makes the difference for our pets.

Talla Dega & I are continuing our prayers for the best outcome.
