Snapple is a "Cover Boy"

Snapple is on the cover this months edition (March 2009) of "Your Dog" Magazine/newsletter, published by Tufts University of Veterinary Medicine. He is featured in a story they did on lung cancer in dogs, as he is now a 27 month cancer survivor. The article also mentions Snapple's Splash Dogs exploits.

They found Snapple by "googling" lung cancer in dogs and came across this article from the summer of 2007 (link below). Now, 20 months since that article was published in our local newspaper, Snapple is still doing fine, minus him being recently diagnosed as a bit senile combined with vestibular disease (he really is "goofy" at times). I don't think he knows who he is, what he is or where he is at times, but I'm still thankful that he is still living a quality, cancer-free life.

Snapple was assisted by his Vet today to The Rainbow Bridge, after a brief (but devastating) week-long, unknown illness .Speculation is some sort of heart failure. Due to Snapple's age, further extensive testing was not recommended, as it would have probably stressed him too much and led to an earlier, more painfull death.
It was time, as he was unable to move out of a prone position.

Snapple's "sister" of 14 years (Emily) was by his side and rested her head on Snapple's head before the injection (even though the two of them shared the same doggie bed it's something she had never done in the past.)

Snapple (while barely being able to hold his frisbee in his mouth) and I spent time on the pier, this afternoon, laying side by side, reminising about his dock jumping practices he so loved, from that pier, when he was healthy (up till just recently.)

Snapple's favorite times were the Splash Dogs competitions


I know we all been through this heartbreak before, but it's been over 14 years for me, so if any of you out there have any words of wisdom, as I'm coping with the gamut of emotions from this dificult, unexpected at this time, loss, please do pass along.
