Since there are a lot of "newbies" in the sport I thought I would take this opportunity to share a story of how this event came to pass, since I have been asked "Are we jumping for cash?"
Back in 2005, Jim and I owned a yellow lab named Cash. He was less than 2 years old when one day at the pond he had a seizure. My ever sweet darling husband tied Peja (our labradoodle) to his waist, picked up Cash and ran over a mile to our Vet. Poor Cash never recovered. He spend 4 days in "doggie ICU", could not walk, did not know his name, went blind, etc. We were faced with the only decision an animal lover could possibly make. Cash passed away on March 17, 2005 just 12 days before his 2nd birthday.
During this horrible time, Tony (and Greg Abner aka "The Voice") called me everyday several times a day to see how Cash was doing. We all cried many times during these conversations. After Cash passed away Tony approached me about holding a jump and donating the money for the Vet expenses. After Jim and I thought about it, we approached a non-profit here called Ashley Memorial Dog Park and for the past 4 events Tony has donated his proceeds to that cause. Since the dog park is up and running we decided to donate the proceeds this year to AAARF (Auburn Animal Area Rescue Foundation)
I can never express our devotion and love that we hold so dearly to Tony Reed. We hope many more will join us this year at this wonderful event, and please make sure you stop by and thank Tony for his unselfishness and dedication.
Here is a picture of that wonderful Team Cash & Jim. Photo compliment of Howie!

Oh Sandra, how heartbreaking! It's never easy saying goodbye to a beloved pet, but losing one so young and unexpectedly sounds very traumatic -- I felt like I was re-living those difficult days with you & Jim when reading your story ;( We lost our first Lab just before her 2nd birthday after a year-long fight with kidney disease so I can relate to how it feels to be robbed of a healthy/long life with a dog. It definitely makes me want to live every minute to the fullest with each of my other dogs!

I'm sure MickeyD and all the SplashDogs will be jumping for Cash (the dog, not the money!) and to enjoy every minute of whatever too-short time we have with them. What a wonderful way to memorialize Cash and all the other dogs we've loved and lost with this benefit for homeless dogs.

Thanks for organizing this event and bless Tony for suggesting it -- it epitomizes the spirit we all have found when joining the SplashDogs familiy!

Such a young and talented pup that got Jim and Sandra hooked on dock diving Splashdogs in particular. And then comes Mickey D. Come on out and support this wonderful cause for the rescues as they all need loving and caring homes in this economical down turn. Hope to see u there!!

The one and only time we saw Jim jump Cash was in Long Beach in 2005. It was our first event ever, and Kadin had just learned to jump. Cash was this big beautiful boy, and imagine our horror and heartbreak when we found out at the Del Mar event a few weeks later that he was gone. When the event opened, Mark Stuart held a moment of silence for Cash. We were so new to the sport, but we could already tell there was so much support and camaraderie. It was a family.

And that's what Jim and Sandra mean to us: they are our family.

We miss Cash very much, and are so grateful his memory lives on in this memorial jump . . .

I remember that memorial well. For whatever reason I can't find the picture right now. When I do, I'll post it.

Mark:
I will never forget the CD that you sent me with the pictures of the Memorial. You had made signs of Cash's name and everyone held one in their hands, many with tears! In one of your many emails to me, while Cash was in ICU, you told me of the camaraderie at the event like you had never seen before!
You also told me at the time that once you were in the dock diving family you were there forever, and that has proven to be so true!
Here is an opportunity to say thank you to a man who has done so much for the "family" of dock diving. Thank you Mark!

Here are a few pictures of the "Memorial" that Mark arranged in Del Mar. Look at Melissa, she looks like a little girl!

I am happy to announce that we will again this year do the tennis ball jump. We have some wonderful prizes that have been donated (will always take more!) The jump will be held at noon on Sunday.

What a sad story about Cash . . .

What is the tennis ball jump?

Hi Diane:
It is a fundraiser for Auburn Area Animal Rescue. We have had donated over 50 prizes with a value ranging from $25.00 - $250.00. Our donations this year have been just terrific!
50 Tennis balls are thrown into the pool and one dog at a time jumps in and retrieves a ball which is numbered to a corresponding prize.
We hope to see you at the event.
