My pit bull Lucy got to dry out dock diving for the first time on Friday at Wags for Wishes, and she had an awesome time. She loved it so much I'm determined that her first taste of the sport definitely won't be her last.

Unfortunately we were told she couldn't compete in the collar she was wearing, otherwise I would have signed her up for a competition wave.

I noticed that the rules are being revised for 2009, so I can't view them, but can someone let me know what type of collar or harness would be appropriate for competition? I just want to be sure we're prepared for the next Splash Dogs event near us and that we've got the right gear to compete.

Everyone at the event was extremely helpful--thanks for making it such a positive experience for us! :)

What type of collar did you have on your pup?

Hi Rachel:
Not allowed are pinch, choke, or E collars. Hope this helps and welcome to the Splash Dog family!

She was wearing a leather buckle collar with brass studs. Here's a photo of it.

Maybe I just misunderstood the person who told me she couldn't wear it.

Thanks for the replies!

Your collar looks fine to me -- many dogs compete in similar collars. You may want to consider a nylon one for water time -- we got some chemicals in our dogs leather collars at a recent competition and had to throw them away. Perhaps the person you were talking to thought you meant extreme vertical jumping instead of big air long jumping -- dogs go collarless for EV for safety so they won't get caught on the bumper holder.

BTW, I do hope we can get the rules back on the website soon -- they were very helpful to me when we started dock diving. I work on websites for a living so if SplashDogs needs web help, perhaps I could assist.

I apologize that you were given the wrong information. We had several WAGS volunteers working all day long on the practice pool and an experienced wrangler overseeing them, unfortunately they gave you the wrong info. If you ever have any questions, please check in with Registration and they will get you an answer. On our rules, they are about to be posted , however we always have a hard copy onsite at registration if there is any questions.

I'm so glad you had a good time!
