View Full Version : Rules for ties

With more people joining SplashDogs at each event, it seems like ties will become more common. Hannah & I have had 2 ties already this year that have effected Finals placement/prizes (what are the odds?!). In both cases, the automated software placed us in reverse from the order I expected. Natalie and I were confused about our Stockton tie listing so hopefully we can get clarification on the rules.

I've seen jump-offs happen when the tie effects Final 4, but what about other Finals placements? I would think we'd do something like Dock Dogs and base it on the next furthest jump during the event. But in both of my ties, the automated scoring software didn't do that. If the software isn't smart enough to look at other event jumps, can we override and correct the placements based on some logical performance criteria such as other event jumps?

Of course, these are fun competitions, but it's more fun when we understand how we were placed ;)

Thanks!

Hi Cyndi,

First - apologies on the delay in this response. I have been down a computer and have very limited access. Per the rules, in the scenario above, the second highest jump score over the weekend for each dog would then be looked at and that would determine the tie. Unfortunately, there was an error in our program and it was not doing this. It is now in the hands of it's creator to ensure that going forward the system will look at the ties and break them according to our standing rules.

This isn't a very common occurrence but I'll look into some history to fix any other instances. The Stockton results will be manually changed. Please let me know if you would like a new ribbon or if you and Natalie want to just switch at the next event you both are at?

On the rules, the updated Rules and Regulations for Splash Dogs will be posted in the next few days to the website by the webmaster. There are no new rule changes, just clarifications.

Thanks, Urs! That makes sense so glad to hear that's how the ties are resolved. Based on that, Natalie & I are fine on ribbons which were done correctly -- just need to switch our Stockton results listing. For Hannah's Costa Mesa tie, I think it's too late to change since several placements would have been effected between Open and Pro. Glad the software is going to be fixed since this is definitely a hassle you don't need with all the details you're handling to run an event!

P.S. Sorry to hear about your computer -- that's so frustrating!

P.P.S. Will the rankings be updated when the Redfish Cup results are posted? We're soliciting a sponsor right now and are referring them to the SplashDogs site which is our reason for all the questions!

We were just discussing the same thing about the rankings as well. :)

Bummer on the PC but hey, it leaves you more time for fun stuff with the dogs right?

Thanks!
