We are very new at this, and have only done it at two events so far, but I'll try to explain it. The starting height depends on each handler. Before the start of each Super V wave, they normally allow for some practice time. They ask each handler where they would like to start, and that's how they come up with the running order. For instance dog #1 is starting at 4'6", and dog #2 is starting at 5'0". Dog #1 will jump at 4'6", 4'8", and 4'10", then dog #2 jumps at 5'. Dog #1 gets a chance, and they continue to take turns jumping until one misses the toy (they get up to 2 jumps to be successful), or the next dog comes in. Then dog #3 might come in at 5'6" and then dog #2 jumps that height, and dog #1 follows. Last dog who successfully catches the toy (does not have to land with it in their mouth, just pull it out of the holder) is the winner. Hope I didn't confuse you more.

Good explanation, actually I understand how it works, just wondered if Splash Dogs had lowered the starting height to 4'6" like other organizations had. thank you

The official starting height for Super Vertical is 4'0" and yes, we have allowed some teams to start a little lower if they request it in their first few competitions. The more the merrier... We will be offering Super Vertical at a few more events this year so hope to see you on the dock!
