View Full Version : ??Which January event to hit??
BOcephus
11-07-2006, 05:47 PM
I see people talking about the SanDiego event Jan. 4-7th.
And I notice one Jan.18-21st in Sacromento... I will be bringing the clan to one or the other it is just figuring out which one to hit!!
Any input from those that have been to the previous ones would be helpful.
Sacramento is the favorite so far since it is pretty much my home town.(Roseville, Folsom, granitebay,,elkgrove, Rio Linda) were the main neighborhoods. Never had the pleasure of growing up in one house..
All I know is I will not miss another southern event to stay up here and play in the mud!!

San Diego won't be as cold.
This will be an indoor event.
This will be first time done at the boat show.

Gunner, Twiztid and I will be trying to make San Diego as well in January. Things may fall into place for another TTT get together!
I believe the Sacramento event is outdoors - which last year seemed a little hard on some dogs - like mine (not enough fat to keep him warm). But, who know's I saw that pic of Kona in the water with ice and it didn't seem to phase him...

From what I remember it doesn't get really cold in Sacramento.
I lived in the area for roughly 14+ yrs. and remember one time in about the 4th grade we lived next to the Gibson Ranch and it actually snowed about an inch and a half.
We have already been in the upper 20's here a few times . Anything above 45-50 degrees is summer time in January.
No decisions made yet.
Don't know if any of you remember OZ from Diamond lake.. The boys and I will be doing a back country ski & Snowmobile trip with him sometime in January. He took BO's pup (now known as Drake) and in exchange we get some fun in the snow!!!! And get to visit friends!!
Drake (Bo's son) at 9 months old was as big as BOcephus is!!!
Please keep the feed back on the events coming. I need help making this mind up!!!
Jim & Sandra We will one way or the other see you in January!!
Urs, I am real sorry I didn't make it down after saying I would :(
Promise it will not be a reoccurring thing!!!

All right,
I'm going to go out on a limb here and commit to one of the wonderful sounding sunny California events in January. After much deliberation we are going to plan on traveling to San Diego. Hope to see everybody there.

Sacramento is really cold! I got sicker than a dog last year    so bring your rain coats! I don't think the dogs mind it at all. We are also going to San Diego in January. By the way Urs didn't you tell me in Scottsdale you could not go to San Diego???? I said to you then yeah right you'll be there after all that's only an 8 hour drive not the 12 you did!!! Bryan I'm just glad I get to see you in January...don't disappoint me again young man! :) Hey Dave we look forward to seeing you in San Diego. Won't be long now kids!

aaah- the drive from Scottsdale got me thinking - 11 hours home, heck I could make San Diego in 6 1/2 if I travel in the evening - after all that LA traffic....
45 is freezing, last night we actually turned our heater on for the first time since last winter. even then, I had a blanket and sweats on and barely warmed up. Forgot how chilly it can get - time for my heavy jacket and gloves to take the dogs out...as you can see, I'm definately not a winter person....

I dont' want to hear all this whining about 45 degrees being cold. Come on out to Michigan and we'll show you cold. Shoot, 45 degrees and I'll still be wearing shorts. :D

There is a reason I live here in California and have not moved away, the weather elsewhere is way toooo cold. Arizona, I liked, however summers are tooooo hot. Looks like I'm definately a California girl at heart! 8)

Talked with Terry last night. Told him we were heading to San Diego for some fun in Jan. :D and he stated he wasn't staying here in the clouds while we went down and had fun!!!
So Terry & Lacey will be along also!! :D :!:
Question:
How far is HollyWood from the Venue area? Promised Megan we would go see the Stars!!

From San Diego to Hollywood is about 125 miles. I'm so glad your coming and Terry too! It's going to be like a family reunion! :)

By the way the last time Jim and I stayed in LA, I too wanted to go see the stars. What a disappointment Hollywood and Vine was nothing but a bunch of homeless people, we certainly did not see any stars! Rodeo drive and Beverly Hills would be my suggestion.

Wait a minute.................... :? This is a inside event isn't it :o
BOcephus has taken a liking to chaseing Monkey's lately. I find him playing with his Monkey all the time. Have no Idea where he got that from either..............
It will be Rrrufus's first inside event. Hope he will still pop out some 20+ footers like he has been lately.
We will most likely miss the second half of Friday's waves for Hollywood. BO thinks he is going to be a STAR. He always said just let me get a paw in the door and he would do the rest..... I told him he would have a better chance at the SanDiego Zoo   As a babysitter for the new born Monkeys
He didn't think it was as funny as I did.....

Is there a place you all are going for them or do we have a Fish Taco Chef in our SplashDog Family?
They sound yummy to us!!!
Would it be okay if BO brings his new little buddy?
He always brings beer!!

Mark Stuart knows the BEST places in the area for Fish Tacos (and lobster ones too!) :D !!!
Mark, what do you think? A get together for all at the awesome place and perhaps a visit to "Latitude 32"?? I can think of a few of us who would love a visit for those plans!
Brian...that picture of that monkey looks familiar..... 8)

Amanda,
It sounds like you might be making the trip down here. That means Bart might be accompanying you also. This might be a bigger event than I thought it would be!!! Great, anyone else thinking about coming down?
Yes that picture is familiar, I sent it out to a couple of people a few days after I had the monkey over   !!!!
BOcephus
11-14-2006, 09:14 AM
Brian,
Please don't bring the Monkey. BO would never wanna come back home. And if he did all I would here is "Can we go see the Monkey?" Come on Dad Please",Please, Please, OH Please, Please",Please, Please, OH Please, Please", Please, Please, OH Please, I promise to be good"!!! Over and Over again
So Mark, I haven't noticed a reply yet. Are going to show us these spots Amanda had mentioned? I promise to be good
I figured you would have some "Hogan Fish Taco's" for everyone to talk about :P Hope to see ya there!! Been awhile.
Are you going to be there Bart and Amanda??? That would be nice. I could actually visit with ya while sucking on a fat tire. Unlike the last time :)

WoW,
This is way cool!!!!!!!
You know how it is said "Everything happens for a reason"?
Well I for one am a firm believer in that!!
If the weather had not hit when it did instead of when it was supposed to I would not be making it to SanDiego. I would have went to Arizona. I was bummed when I had to cancel. But now I am sorta happy that we missed it. We couldn't go to SanDiego had we went. Not that we wouldn't hacve had a blast there I am surely positive that woulda happened.
But now I get to travel with my bud Terry also get to take my Megan to Hollywood her life long dream!!!
I am happily Grateful!!!???Did that sound right??

BrYan--way cool! It will be good to see you and definitely Megan too! Terry coming with you too? Awesome! Do I get to run Lacey again? She's a great dog! Everything does happen for a reason--my mom used to say that all the time!
I think I will absolutely be trying to make it to San Diego for that event! There's a beach there that Sarge thinks he needs to visit! 8) And Sandra's right...I've also heard that Bart really really wants to make this event--something about Gunner getting bored sitting around the house...
Will Team Triple Threat be there? Do you all have t-shirts for purchase?
I'm willing to trade squeaky cheese curds for one....

Would anyone by chance know the area where this venue is at?
What I would like to know is if it has low ceilings?
That other organisation(names not mentioned to protect from lawyers) had that event in San Francisco which BOcephus and Lacey say was the worst event they had ever been to. Terry & I loved it
The ceilings with flourecent tube lights were just way to low!! Heck I even tried to clear a few lights so BO would feel more comfy.
I know that had something to do with Stryker not breaking the EV record on that day.
Just curious/
Since it will be Rrrufus's first indoor jump.
We all know not to expect much out of BO inside since the Toys for ToTs episode :o

The San Diego event will take place at the Boat Show which is held each year in the Convention Center downtown along the bay. http://www.sandiegoboatshow.com/ . Splash Dogs did make the main page of the Boat Show website and described as "dogs that broad jump", unfortunately the layout map is not updated to locate the Splash pool.
The ceilings are very tall and if Fido hits fluorescent tube lights your dog eats way too much rocket fuel! This should be a great event and Iím glad Twiggy The Water Skiing Squirrel has been replaced with our jumping dogs!

Thankyou for the info :)
It doesn't seem that ceilings will be a problem. I am living proof as to the dangers of Low Ceilings
I went to the site and this is what they say.
Kids Area ñ Sponsored by the San Diego Unified Port District.
This includes the special feature Splash Dogs....
New this year, thanks to The Port of San Diegoís sponsorship, are ìSplash Dogs.î As seen on national TV, ìSplash Dogsî showcases dogs that broad jump from a dock into a pool. The ìSplash Dogsî will be featured in the Big Bay Kids Area portion of our show. Other feature of the Kids area include; puppet shows, boat painting, balloons, and many interactive activates for the Kids.
How perfect the kids area!!! I finally will be able to fit in!! and feel right at home!!! :D

If you decide the splash pool is not enough water try one of our leash free dog areas located on the ocean or in Mission Bay near Seaworld.

Craig I've been thinking about you and Stanley. How is the training going? We rented a condo in Ocean Beach and I believe it is close to Dog Beach. In case anyone is interested in staying there here is the link http://www.vrbo.com/42134#morephotos. I did not want to stay in a motel for 4 days. The rate is not bad I got it for $115 a night, however, they do charge a non-refundable $100.00 fee for the dog! Bryan, I got a little present for you. Have you seen "beer sun glasses" before? Jim had a pair at the Auburn event but Randy feel in love with them so we gave them to him. Picked up a couple of pairs the other day. Have them in the glove box already for you! Can hardly wait for this event!!!! :)

Actually, Fiesta Island is right behind SeaWorld. On most days you can hear the announcers doing there shows and if your on the Island early enough you will see Sea world employees picking up fireworks from the night before. And if your on Fiesta Island around 9:00 at night you can watch them and let the dogs swim. Me and my wife saw a seal swimming there yesterday and my wife thought it might have gotten away from Seaworld LOL!!! That is the dogs favorite place, they can either go swimming or go for long walks in the center of the island and chase all the rabbits around.

Sandra,
If your condo link is correct http://www.vrbo.com/42134#morephotos
That will put you at the wrong end of I-5. You might want to ensure that you are staying in Ocean Beach and not Oceanside. Ocean Beach is in San Diego and Oceanside is about a 40 minute drive north from downtown San Diego. The traffic between Oceanside and San Diego can be bad for a happily married couple trying navigate through, especially after driving 10+ hours to reach sunny Southern California. Looks like a great place but remember the commute on I-5. If you want to be closer to San Diego send your wish list to anyone of us in San Diego and we'll help you out. Hope this was not bad news but you should be aware of the traffic and driving. Now that we all know where you are staying weíll bring the party to your place!

The drive should be really short.
At the border be sure Sugarlips has his papers. This is more important than Mickey d's papers.

He will be just like QuincyNO. Yeah right!

I would say that MickeyD is normal! It's all those other dogs that aren't normal! I mean what kind of normal is it to sit and wait patiently when it's your turn to do the funnest thing in the world! And why wouldn't you run back up on the dock to try to get another turn? Those other dogs are just plain silly!
