Pic of pond with drainage ditch being dug. The Dock will be on the Left side of the pond with dogs jumping left to right (South to North). We are draining it to make sure it is deep enough (5 1/2+ feet) in the landing zone and to make sure there is nothing on the bottom. There has never been any fishing allowed in this pond so there should be nohooks or anything like that. We are also installing a permenant drain and spillway to maintain a permenant water level. The pond will be refilled with fresh well water and checked again for things like Giardia or other pathogens. The pond has been checked before and is always clean. The pond is almost completely drained as of today and hopefully will dry quickly.

Your drive to do that scope of work dancing in this weather is commendable!
That's one hell of a long day, and what a gorgeous background for this place it is. Thank you so much for posting that visual.
Great job Mister!

Spent the day digging a 3 foot wide trench across the bottom of the pond so that all the water would drain out. Thought I should do that before the rain came. I had to do it by hand (with a shovel) because the bottom of the pond is just too muddy right now for heavy equipment. Boy are my arms and back sore. I have blisters on both hands.
I did learn that the pond has a hard bottom about 1-2 feet under the soft mud. I am thinking that I might be able to work from the edge and remove the soft mud and then dig it down in the jump zone. We are also talking about raising the water level of the pond also to increase depth.

That's pure drive if not down right a bit crazy........sure hope you have a crew to stand by your side through this!! Least feeding you and giving you water......LOL Don't forget 1 person can't do it all!
It takes a team of people being all on the same page in headed in the right direction. Least that is how I try to see life working to build things, not to destroy them.
Keep up the good work and make sure you don't break yourself!

When I set a goal I try not to let anything stop me. I am a bit obsessive..lol It is raining here now and I am waiting. I will check on the pond tomorrow because I am judging a Super Singles competition (retriving test). I think the rain won't set the pond back much. (fingers crossed)
I love a challenge.

I know where this is! This was the first place I took Kylie to introduce her to birds and shotguns. The dog trainer there took her on that spit to see how birdy she was with a pigeon. He was training her sister there and she was doing very well. Well, Kylie had other interests, and he said she would never be a hunting dog, she wouldn't retrieve. Heck, she was only 6 months old! Look at her now. Hope this works out, it would be great to have more fun jumping closer to home.

How the pond looking?

It is drying out slowly and this rain isn't helping. I have done some work around the pond, moving a hillside a bit further back and adding some dikes for the other dog trainers. Building up a berm around the edge of the pond to prevent silt flowing into the pond in the future. Took out a small stump that was at the edge of the pond just under the waters surface.
Got the loader stuck in the pond and dug it out by hand to get it free...lol
Made a road around the pond.
Finishing up a trailer for an agility club so I should be able to start building the dock trailer soon.
The usual stuff.

The pond is getting pretty dry and there is no more rain in the near future. I hope to get in and dig it out either this week or next week. Just keeping everyone informed.

Ok actually got the loader into the pond the last two days and have about 2/3 of the whole pond scraped out. Putting a berm/levy around the pond to help raise the water level and make the pond deeper. I think we will have the entire pond around 5 feet deep and the diving area around 5.5 -6 feet. The last 1/3 of the pond is still a bit to wet to get in so might wait till either this weekend or maybe tuesday to try and get into it. Have about a day of work (once I can get in the wet area) till we will be able to fill the pond. The Dock itself will take a bit longer but should be ready in a few weeks. Gotta check the weather and make sure we aren't getting anymore rain.
THE DOCK IS GOING TO HAPPEN!! YEAH!!!

This is awesome :D Thank you so much for giving us updates. Question??? Where the heck is this pond?? I looked at the maps with the freeways that you gave us and I can't for the life of me find this pond or area. It doesn't seem to jive with the freeways??? I was out in that area or so I thought anyway and drove around looking for it but no luck
Thanks,
Chase

CHASE WAS BORN THERE. Just a few feet away from the pond. 10 years ago last month. His mother passed away when he was only 3 weeks old, so I spent a lot of time there each week visiting him and bonding and playing with him as a tiny puppy until he was allowed to go home at 7 weeks. It's a nice spot, easy access, right off the freeway.

Yep It is Prado Dog Park. I did not want it to get out too soon exactly where the pond was because I needed time to get hunting dog clubs to be OK with us taking over part of "their" only training and testing area in the area. The grounds are used to train Retrievers, Spainels, and Pointers and they also hold Lure coursing events there at times. The pond we are using is right by the office and kennel building and is the farthest from most of the other training areas. Part of the deal to get use of the pond was to improve the pond for the other trainers/clubs. We will not have exclusive use of the pond but should be able to use it most weekends but we will havde to let others use it on some weekends for their tests or training days.
This is not a city park type of area. This is 1/2 way between a park and wilderness. There are wild animals that sometimes wander into the area (usually at night) such as deer,racoons,etc.. It is also a workig farm for praire grass used as feed for the dairy'sin the area. They work to make the area dog safe, they mow feilds and plant some areas to get rid of foxtails and nettles. They constantly try and control the ground squirell populations (without posions). Everything they do has to be enviromentally safe because it is state owned land.
I am going to make up a guideline and rules paper for the use of the park and the use of the dock for the dock diving dog owners who will not know the etiquette of the park. We really want to avoid any problems in the begining.

Really Brook?? OMG.... Chase is 10  I just can't believe that. You tell him Happy Birfday from Auntie Shari and Nevada gives him a snip ;) I never knew his Momma passed away. That is very sad but it sure didn't hurt Chase any. He turned out great, happy, socialized and talented too in spite of the knees. Miss you and hope you are doing well.

Thanks Kelly,
We met at Eukanuba at the end of the weekend upstairs in the Lab booth. I know who you are now. The Prado Park is a bit farther away from me than where I thought the pond was but still doable for a day of fun. Thank you for getting this done. I look forward to coming out and playing with my girls.

Unfortunately No I won't be there :( I already had plans to go to Del Mar and I can't do them both although I thought about trying to do one day with one and one day with the other. It just didn't work out for me. It would have been way to much driving. I am not good with the driving thing like you are. I will definitely be in Costa Mesa though so hopefully I will see you there.

The directions on the site above send you past Prado Dog Park and to Prado Regional Park. Prado Dog Park entrance is the first Right you can make after exiting highway 71. If you stay in the right hand lane from 71 you will drive right into the Dog Park.
Here is the link to Prado Dog Park where the pond and dock are located. It will be a bit befoe we will have the pond filled and dock up and running.
Everyone is free to stop by and look, there is a fee to get into the dog park $15 or $10 if you are going there for an event like the Retriever Hunt Test this weekend. The cost covers a married couple and two dogs. Children under 16? or 18? are free with adults. The area is 585 acres and has several ponds and and a bunch of fields (DO NOT Drive thru the fields!) The entire park is leash free, but do not let your dogs get out of control, people are training there and do not want dogs running up to them or there dogs while they are training. WATCH for Dogs while driving!! Drive very very slowly anywhere you can see people or cars! Dogs may be loose in the entire park and may be working up to a 1/4 mile away from the Handler! We often run our dogs across roads in the park! If you see a person or two in a field they are probably using the Whole Field, be courteous and do not let your dogs (NO Matter How Friendly) run up on other people or dogs! If you want to talk to someone feel free to, they are very friendly and will help you but please aproach people with out your dogs first. If you wish to watch a test or training it is best to wear dark or camo clothing.
This is an amazing place and and very wide open. It is going to be very busy there this weekend! normally weekends are nowhere near as busy as this weekend.
The directions on the site above send you past the dog park and to the regional park, the dog park you turn East at the first intersection past after you get off highway 71. This is where Euclid avenue turns from 2 lanes to one. The park is on the south east corner of Euclid (Butterfield Ranch) and Highway 71.

I know it is a bit old fashioned that they will let your husband or wife and your kids in for free, and at the same time let same sex married couples in too. Of course it does discriminate against polygamists. The married part was added after a bunch of people started becoming couples for a day to avoid paying entry fees. They have talked about charging a flat fee per person and doing away with the married couple thing but would rather keep it a place where you can bring your family.

The pond is about 1/2 full after filling for 48 hours. I am thinking late Sunday or monday it should be full, probably will have to raise or lower some banks to make sure they are all level. Do a few tweaks to get everything right.

I have plans on Saturday but hope to go on another day.
