I just got off the phone with Ursula. She told me about a devastating story that just happen to her.
The home she was living in burned to the ground. Her family and all five dogs, two cats and a turtle made it out safely. Her spirits were down a little but she is already looking forward to rebuilding her life. I believe her place was a total lost. She is going to contact Red Cross and see if she can get some assistance to find a place to live.
I know Sandra & Tony have already talked about setting up a bank account so we can raise some money to help her out.
I think the Splash dog family can put there hearts into this we can give Ursla a little support in rebuilding her life.
So if you think you can help out we will post up some info about were you can donate as soon as we get it.
I am sorry to pass on the bad news on x-mas.
Thank you for all of your help.

We're so sorry to hear what happened! But very happy that all the humans and pets got out okay and unharmed.
Rob--great idea from Sandra and Tony to help out! Definitely post some information when you have it! Can there be some sort of a donation bucket or box for items they'll need put out at the San Diego event?
Anything we can do to help too--just let us know!
Many prayers out to Urs and her family from our gang!

Absolutely heartbreaking news
Along with the bank info, is there another address or PO box address that people who wish too may send other things as well?
Ursula our thoughts and prayers are with you....

All,
First of all thank you so much for the kind words and support. The shock is finally just settling in and I'm sure the next few days will be absolutely awful as I sit and go through the loss of everything at the house.
For those who don't know the whole story, my daughter and her friends noticed a fire in the garage, no one knew how it started, they were trying to get the front hose hooked up to put it out by that time I ran out to see and brought the fire extinguisher, when I saw it, I just screamed leave it and get out! They all ran back in the house and grabbed an animal or two each and got out. Gunner, freaked out when he saw the flames in the garage and ran back in, a friend went back in and rustled with him and finally picked him up and threw him over the back yard fence - had he not got him so quickly I believe I would have lost my beloved boy. They both came out a few minutes later from around the back of the house. My friend was then taken to the hospital for smoke inhilation - God Bless him, he knew how much a part of the dogs are to my family.
The fire was centered in the garage, however the smoke damage was severe in the house as well as my neighbors house (they lost a few of their pets in their home due to smoke inhilation and my heart goes out to them) The firewall in the garage to my bedroom kept the fire at bay from getting into the home, except for a small portion of the wall that it began to get through but really that is minor compared to how bad it was in the garage. 3 cars were in the driveway and all three are totaled - the fire raged out of the garage about 10 feet and all three are now destroyed. When you look at the house from the street it looks like a bomb dropped on my house. It's very depressing so I am trying not to go there too much these first few days. We will be making a large trip to try and salvage whatever we can by end of this week.
This afternoon the insurance company is out at the house reviewing the damage. We will see where we go from there.
It is very unlikely that we'll be going to San Diego - but as Sandra and Melissa said - they aren't counting me out.
Thank you all for the friendship and love. You all mean so much to me and you are really helping me keep my spirits up.
I'll sign back on in a few days to update you all,
Val and Maxx

Ursula,
I am so sorry to hear of your tragic news but VERY grateful you are all safe and sound!
Do you need a computer? I work for a software company and we have several "retired" computers. My boss has already given me permission to donate some of them to people in need. I would be thrilled to give one to you.
Let me know and I will fix it up for you.
Please know also that you are in our prayers.

Oh, Urs, I am so sorry to hear about your house. You must be devastated. I was very relieved to read that all people & pets were safe-Thank god for that.
If you need anything, please post. I can bring extra dishes and what not since my mom passed away a few months ago and we have extra stuff.
I have your Wamu account and will help out there as well.

Hi Ursula,
We're so glad that you, the dogs and critters made it out okay. It must have been truly terrifying. Please lean on all of us, okay? We're your Splash Dogs family and we know you'd be the first to sign up to help any of us.
And thank you to Sandra and Tony for setting up the WaMu account. This is why I love all you guys.

WE ARE FAMILY
This is why we are family!
Urs,
Just remember Lean on me
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you don't let show
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me
So just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'd understand
We all need somebody to lean on
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Lean on me...
WE are here for you!

all,
I wanted to send an update to you all...still in the very beginning stages of recovery but we will continue on one day at a time..
First, I just found out that my mom has a wireless connection in her house, this really helps as my work laptop has wirless set up, so here I am and I will be on a little at a time.
We're waiting to hear from the owner of the house, the insurance company went out yesterday, we also went out and when we got there they had a fire/disaster company out sealing up the roof (storm hitting) they also boarded up the garage I believe for safety issues. We are expected to hear from the owner tomorrow on what his plan is for the house and then we can start making plans.
Gunner and Twiztid have settled in over at Wendy's. Thank you so much Wendy for not only offering but making me and my daughter feel so comfortable leaving them with you and Keith. I thought I would be heartbroken leaving them but seeing them running around w/huge smiles on their doggy faces really helped me know I was doing the right thing for them and us. The house here is quiet now and we are able to concentrate on the things we need to.
to my splash dog family - I and my family are extremely touched by the outpouring of love and help. My mom is astonished at all the support you all are offering. She didn't know what a wonderful group of people you all were. Now she knows why I enjoy my weekends of dock jumping so much. thank you all....

Ursula:
So so sorry to hear about this. But I'm glad to know you and your family are all ok---that's by far the most important thing. I only met you in Arizona, but you seem to be a pretty strong lady, so I'm sure you will get through this fine! We are all thinking of you here in the midwest, just let us know what us Michiganders can do to help!
Stay strong,
Sara

So if we want to make a $$ donation, send them directly to the bank/account listed previously? The labs have been selling wet, slobbery kisses and dog treats and have a little stash they would like to donate. The kitties are making back alley catnip deals and have a little to give too. xoxo

I am happy to update everyone and let them know I just got home from signing a rental agreement for a new house. I am so happy! It is so hard to find a house in the Silicon Valley for those with dogs. Cats are difficult as it is, but with dogs, they will pass you right up for the next non animal family.
We are moving into our new home on January 20th, just a few weeks from now. As you could imagine, this takes alot of stress off of me. This was my number oncee concern.
Thank you all for your support, I look forward to settling in to the new house and continuing to rebuild our lives.
Happy New Year everyone!

She has both of my boys, well right now, I do at her house, but she'll be back tomorrow. Anyway, she's anxiously awaiting my decision as am I...gotta get it approved by my Mom - yes am 35 yrs old and need approval from my Mother, pathetic...lol
Happy New Year everyone! I have alot to look forward to for 2007, especially rebuilding my life after this disaster....

That is such great news about the new homestead! As you know, just having you and your human & furry children safe and sound is all it will take for you to truly be home again. So glad something is going your way! You deserve it!!

Oh I am so sorry to hear this news. Please stay strong and be thankful everyday that all your family and all the animals are safe. You can rebuild a home, replace belongings, but loosing our families or our beloved animals would be the worst ever. I'm so glad everyone is safe and that your moving into a new home. That is wonderful news. Please stay strong and hopefully we will see you in San Diego...

Urs,
Just tell your mom that we have packages for you but that they are contingent on you coming to pick them up :-p She can't argue with you going to get much needed gifts, right?!?!?! In all seriousness, I sure hope you are able to make it so I can give you a big hug and Kona has some wet, slobbery kisses to share too! But, if you can't, hopefully we'll meet up later this month!
