Hey all,

BADD is very excited to be hosting our first ever dock jumping competition May 26th and 27th! We are working with Splash Dogs and many sponsors to make this a great event! We will have special prizes & games!

What better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than with your pooch and fellow SplashDoggers! Check out the Splash Dogs Upcoming Events page to register! Big Air and Super Vertical will be offered! Proceeds from this event will go towards making our Livermore Training Facility a reality!

We'd love to see you all there!
Urs & all of BADD!

Urs:

Is this the one in Pittsburg?

I guess they are NOT using the pool, but rather they jump into the Suison Bay Marina water. How does that work? Do the still use the Splashdogs dock and position it over the water or is there some other dock that is used.

And how deep is the marina?

I would be a bit afraid that Chase might jump in and then get distracted by a boat or something and just start swimming across the bay. He did that down in San Diego at Mark and Hogan's dock. He just decided to see what was happening across the bay. Fortunately my screams got him to come back.

So, how does it all work and what is the set up? Maybe I could rent a jet ski that is all powered up and ready to go after him!!!!!!

P.S. Hope your leg is feeling better!

Hey Brooke,

It is run into the bay. There are 3 docks, two are right up against eachother w/a boat ramp to the right of them and then the other dock to the right of the boat launch ramp. The dock we jump off of is farthest to the left and has a small lagoon to the left of it and another boat ramp which the dogs come up on, separate from the ramp the boats go down. Tony has a dock that lays on top of the existing boat ramp w/his awesome turf. Here's a pic to explain it better. As you can see it is separated from the boats out to 30 feet.

It's a great location, shaded trees around the walkway just above the lagoon and dock, great for the spectators to sit and watch from. These pics were taken from where the spectators can sit in 2005 and 2006.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Urs!

It looks as if the middle dock where Tony hangs the blue measuing tape is sort of a barrier so that after the dogs jump off of the green covered dock, they would naturally turn to the left and swim back to walk up the boat ramp rather than swim to the right out into the bay. At least most dogs would do that (not sure what Chase would opt to do-might still need a jet ski handy!).

Thanks for the great pictures!

I feel your pain Brooke, one throw from our local docks and Stanley is on his way to Hawaii. There are times when the brown clown will go on a 250 yard swim to the other shoreline. He always returns when he realizes his ride home is driving away. My goal for the next few months is to teach a water logged dog recall, until then I keep the red divers flag flying from the top of his head!

Well not that this will surprise anyone.....but...MickeyD swims out and then runs into the crowd! One time JR caught him and almost threw his arm out of his socket! Oh that boy! Now Stanley would end up across the Bay! I think Jessica Draper's dog took off once...scarey!

Sandra - now Mickey D could pull anyone's arm out of the socket, that boy is powerful....

Hey, the ever-enthusiastic Naika will be there (you know, that German Shepherd girl with the ears that are too big for her head). Sounds like we will have Super Vertical too so we will be trying that too.

Should be a blast!

Yes, we will have SV also! Saturday evening we will run a practice round for any dogs interested in trying it for the first time and to warm up for Sunday's SV comp.

Hi Urs! I'm so excited for you all -- your first event! I really do wish we could come. I blew out almost all of my vacation time this year with the three-plus weeks I spent in the Philippines/Singapore/Malaysia in January. Am trying to be creative with my sick days!

Have fun everyone!

Linda - we will definitely miss you...know how the whole work thing goes, I can't even ask for an afternoon off right now, having just returned from 2 months of disability...sucks!
