I just arrived at work this morning and was introduced to one of our customers who was visiting from his home in Phoenix, Arizona. The topic of Splashdogs came up and he informed me that he is trying to find a Chesapeake Bay Retriever to adopt and make a member of his family. He is married and has two young children; a 3 year old and a 5 year old. He owned a CBR before, when he was younger, and enjoyed that dog so much that he wants to get another one now that he has children.

He would prefer NOT to get a puppy, and is open to adopting a rescue dog who is maybe a year or so old, but is open to the idea of one that is even older. He hopes to get one who has already gone through the puppy stage and has a bit of training to make it a little easier becoming a member of the family with two young children.

I know that both Lisa (San Diego) and Tracy (Orange County) are involved with CBRs and in particular with rescue CBR dogs. He lives in Phoenix, but he comes to Orange County, California on occassion, because he has a lot of family and business in this area. I told him about Cynopsports and he plans to come, but he would like to get a dog sooner than that if one is available. What information can I send him about either contacing you or how to find one of these dogs?

Thanks.

Thanks everyone for sharing the CBR Rescue info. We always have a few Chessies looking for good homes and some of these dogs are already jumping at Splashdogs. I overheard a few of the Chessies talking about taking Henry down at the next event! As Melissa pointed out the main website, http://www.cbrrescue.org , is a good place to start. Please review the adoption process link for more information. Many of our Southwestern dogs are also listed on http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/CA798.html

For anyone else considering a CBR please read Don't Buy a Chesapeake Bay Retriever if You…… http://www.cbrrescue.org/articles/dontbuy.htm
This article provides useful information about the breed and is an excellent introduction to the wacky world of our beloved brown clowns.

Thank you for the heads up, Brooke! Also thanks to Melissa for forwarding our website. Clearly your customer is very wise as he understands the benefit of a more mature dog (e.g. no potty training! LOL!)

Phoenix, AZ is actually part of our region (CBRR&R is a national organization, hence there are dogs all over the countyr, but to make management easier, it is broken down into regions - the SW being CA, AZ, UT, HI, NV). The volunteer in Phoenix is:

Allison Richards
602-330-5236
allierichards1@yahoo.com

An applicant is certainly able to adopt a dog from any region, but we offer free transport if it is in-region. Otherwise, the adopter will have to pay for the transportation.

Please feel free to pass on my email as well if he would like to contact me directly (Tang and I will offer free dock jumping lessons with the adoption of any of our dogs ;-p) lwyerinwrx@hotmail.com. Also, have him check out both our national website and the petfinder website that has our regional dogs on it.

Thanks again!!!!

Thanks Everyone for the information. I just sent him an email with all your web pages and email addresses and suggestions. He is traveling on business for a couple of days, but should be contacting you soon. His name is Terry Faley.

Maybe we will have a newly adopted Chessie jumping at Cynosports in November!
