Hey all,
Thought I would get some discussions going. Things are very slow at work.....
What is your favorite dock toy? and why?
What is your dogs favorite dock toy?
I get this question in my classes all the time. I of course recommend finding what works for their own personal dog, but I am now biased to the bumpers I use. Just curious to hear what you all have in your minds about your toys and why you use them.
For Gunner, I prefer the DT systems soft mouth 2x11 trainer bumpers. They have the S grooves in them for better grip for me and the dog. They aren't as firm as some of the other bumpers out there, nor as heavy and I've found throwing them to be easier than most others for me. I also like that you can adjust the firmness of the bumper depending on what your dog prefers.
For Twizzy we just found that he loves the Avery ATB Flasher duck. He is so proud carrying his duck.
Vandal uses the Kong Medium squeaky fetch stick.

Jake has changed so many times but he appears to have a new found drive for his Dokken DFT Dove. His mouth isn't that big so we use the puppy trainers. A new Dokken DFT Quail and Partridge were delivered today. I showed them to him and let him put them in his mouth and now they are stored until the next event.
Gunther doesn't have a favorite toy yet since he hasn't jumped off the dock. I have a feeling he is going to like the DFT's as well. He does like Jake's orange Water Wubba and Blue Loopie to just play with in the yard or pool.

I like using Urs's and Wendy's bumpers. Melissa doesn't like to share she thinks Maximus will eat it.

Twizzy has eaten his fair share of bumpers, there are always one or two in my bag that have Twizzy marks in them....lol
Wendy uses the same ones I do....we are always mixing them up and now just use whatever one we can find in a pinch!

Well, right now I guess I prefer to use our new yellow wubba for Charlie. We were using a blue soft bumper, but he seems to prefer something with a brighter color and he follows it much better.
Charlie, however prefers to chase a frisbee (Flying Squirrel). It's the only toy that he will watch the whole way and try to catch rather than just jumping to jump. However, if the wind picks up even a little, I find it impossible to throw well. Shoot, it's hard enough for me to get it in the middle of the pool even without the wind.

Our favorite dock toys are Loopies, Jolly Balls and Wubbas. I think Oskar would say his favorite is the Jolly Ball, (we're talking giant horse sized thing here!) and the Loopie for playing Catch it.
On land, Oskar's favorite is a plain old tennis ball or chuck-it ball. Carly's are DISCS!!! 10 at a time and keep throwin em non stop!!!!!! Fiona just likes to look for creatures living in the groun and is above playing fetch:)

Colby LIVES & BREATHES for the wubba. ;) He loves a good slobbery tennis ball on the ground, but when water retrieving, it is ALL about the wubba.
Parkie can't see what he is going after (poor guy is so cross eyed), but it doesn't matter! He loves it anyway! :)
Abraham is still trying to figure out what he lives & breathes for. Right now, he loves the tennis ball, but has been known to have an affair with the wubba as well. Puppy love, I suppose.
And Gracie loves the tennis ball. She is going to her first competition tomorrow, so maybe I will have an update on what gets her all fired up! :D

I have Chloe being able to take empty cans and bottles to the trash. So her next trick is going to be opening the fridge and bringing me full ones. I hope to make that her favorite retrieveable object!!!

Well, we went to the first competition for Gracie Lou today. No official competition Mastiff jumps occured, but Gracie made a lot of friends today. She went to the edge of the dock, plopped herself down, almost rolled herself off the dock looking for a belly rub, and then put her head down...looking longingly at the toy (and Mom & Dad IN THE COLD POOL) as if to say "Boy, I would really love it if someone would go get me that toy. It looks like a lot of fun to play with!" ;)
Needless to say, Gracie saw a lot of action retrieveing her tennis balls from the exit ramp, but it is a start! :D

I threw my first Wubba yesterday for Ren at the practice dock in Redwood City, I don't know how you all can get a good throw with it...my hats off to you....
My dogs play with their wubba as just a fetch toy, now I know why...MOM CANT THROW IT! lol

It's changed a couple times, but at the moment, Rajah LOVES his Wubba. Tundra, our little GSP currently likes her Loopie.

Well, I like throwing the bumpers best and Phoebe doesn't care what I throw since her 'job' is to bring back anything that lands in the water.
And, Dunkin, well I think everyone in the dock jumping community knows what he loves best- Henrietta, the chicken!
