We are proud to announce an addition to the Flores Family. Her name is still to be determined, but you can guarentee we will let you know what it is when we figure it out!!! Any ideas? Shoot them are way!! She is a 11 month old lab mix. I am not sure what she is mixed with though.(Maybe doberman, just a guess) Her family is moving to KY, and didn't feel they had the room for her, so we decided to take her in. She loves water so hopefully she will love jumping!!! Here is a picture we took today of her when we went to visit. She will be moving in on Saturday!!

Thanks for the suggestion!!! The only reason I thought possibly dobie is because her coloring and her hair. Her hair is shorter than Andy's. I really have no idea what she is mixed with. Would love to hear some other opinions!!!

My first thought was Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, but that was only based on her color. ;) Whatever she is, she is 100% cuteness!

She is gorgeous, Ilove her coloring. She looks lean, probably will run quite well...what about Siren or something around fire, her coloring is very striking...

PrinceAndyFlores

Wow guys thanks for all the great feedback!!! Keep it coming!!!
We still don't know what we are going to name her....
She is going to have her first attempt at dock jumping labor day weekend in diamond lake, or. We are breaking her into the family quick like!!! =) Then she is going to go to Auburn with us and is going to jump all waves Saturday & Sunday. Hopefully she will jump off the dock. I'm sure with the help of her brother she'll be jumping in no time!!! So exciting!! We can't wait!!!

Also, does anyone have any tips for taking an older puppy, young dog in? Anything that will make it easier on them, and easier on the group we already have at home? This is the first dog we have gotten that isn't a puppy, puppy. So it is a little bit of new ground with us....

She is beautiful......what a sweet looking face.....as for tips....Lots of love, try not to show one more attention then the other....I know Sadie would have a fit if I was to adopt another. She is even jealous when I hug my sons pit and give him too much attention.....Just lots of love is my suggestion.....she is one lucky little puppy....

As for a name...I'm going with Jim on Princess Anne or Annie...I'm kinda partcial to Angelina since that's my grandaughters name...but I think Annie is cute.

Enjoy her.

Congrats on your new addition! What a lucky girl...okay are you ready for my name list, lol...all color related since she's such a pretty girl

Sandy
Hazel
Ginger
Caramel
Honey
Sable
Autumn
Penny
Pumpkin
Spice (Princess Spice?)

I guess you can add Princess in front of any of them so she goes with your naming trend :)

As for helpful tips...slow introductions on neutral ground. My dogs are all great meeting dogs out and about but get protective over their own house and special areas. We just added a 9 year old Great Dane to our bunch, and we did a 2 week process where we introduced her one at a time to the dogs on neutral ground. Then one at a time in the house. Then one at a time in the dogs yard. Then a couple at a time, and so on and so on. Give everyone lots of love together and don't forget individual special time too!

Good luck and let us know when you decide on a name!

Get her acclimated to heights before bringing her out. For instance, walk her across an overpass or across the top of a high school stadium bleacher. Gunner's only obstacle when starting out was the fear of the height of the dock, and the 24" down to the water.

I love the name Princess Annie. You will have plenty of time to work with her at the Auburn Event and I would suggest using the ramp and introducing her slowly. Diamond Lake will be great for her introduction to water. Okay Urs where are you??? She will have more ideas for you, after all she's the trainer and were the owners of the misbehaved mild mannered MickeyD!

You did see Gunner at SRS, right Sandra, lol!

Tasha, you know the number and email - contact me and we can discuss introducing her into your home as well as getting her started in dockjumping.

Ooh, she sure is a cutie and has a llittle impish look to her, too. I think Princess Mandy or Candy might be cute as well as Annie..

Is that Princess Isabel?

PrinceAndyFlores
08-22-2007, 04:06 PM
No I think we are going to leave her as just Isabel Flores. Nicknames being so far, Belle, Izzie <---- my favorite. As for princess, I just don't feel like it fits her like Prince fits Andy. Maybe Señorita Isabel..... =)

Well we picked Isabel up today! While it is exciting I think the sadness is the biggest emotion. We got her from a mom and her 2 boys. They were the most polite little boys ever. It was really sad. They came out like troopers but were crying by the time we were leaving. They really loved their dog. They were really sad to have to let her go. It made me cry also. And when I think about it now it still makes me really sad. It is ok though. Isabel is going to have a wonderful life. And being I am a crazy mom, at least the boys can follow her on her website http://www.myspace.com/isabelflores and watch her grow up! I will post pictures a little later!!! Hope everyone is having fun in Reno!!!

Thanks guys!!! Andy & Isabel are having a blast playing. Our kitty however isn't having a lot of fun. Isabel has never been around a cat. I am not sure what her intentions towards our kitty Lily are. She sure does rush at her though. And she just stares intently at Lily, when she isn't thinking she is a linebacker. Lily is a strictly indoor cat so she can only get so far away from Isabel. Hopefully all will calm in a few days. Anyone have any tips for getting the new dog to get along with your kitty???

Oh and since this just happened again, how do I get Isabel to quit attacking Andy while eating. They both have their own dishes and are seperated like 5ft. Andy isn't even looking at Isabel's food but she still gets angry and attacks him. We step in she stops. This is something Octavio and I are having a hard time dealing with. Please someone give us advice on how to fix this.

Ok so now it doesn't even need to be food for Isabel to attack Andy. I am getting really worried. Andy is the biggest sissy ever. He does not have one ounce of mean in him. He is not a fighter, nor do I want him to be. I just want them to get along and I want Isabel to quit attacking him. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Hang in there, Tasha! I know it might be hard to watch, but it might take a few growls, and even a few scratches, but they will eventually work it out. They're probably sensing your anxiety, too. Isabela is trying to figure out where she fits in, and she's confused right now. Like I said, hang in there!

For the cat issue, make sure that the cat has a vertical place to escpae to or a baby gate to dash over. Attatch a leash to the the new pup when supervised. If she starts to dash step on or grab the leash and re-direct her. You can teach a leave it or out command as well. But do not let her keep practicing the chasing behavior otherwise it will start to become the norm for her, not to mention the reinforcement she gets out of chasing the poor kitty.

As far as the resource guarding (RG), seperate them when they eat. There is no need for them to be right near each other. Also, If Andy is anything like my lab (sweet but kinda wimpy, bless their hearts) the new pup may be stressing him and he may stop eating or become hesitant and you don't want that. So seperate them so they can eat in privacy and relax. I didn't get enough information about the other instances but if the new girl has RG issues I would avoid giving them any high value treats or toys. Also, seperate them occassionally throughout the day by putting them in different rooms or better yet their crates. Give them some good chew toys and let them relax in peace and quiet.

Lastly, I would not leave them together unsupervised until the RG gets worked out. Because, that can escalate quickly. So supervise all interactions and seperate when your busy.

Hope this helps!! Congrats and good on you for taking her in. :)
