Hi Everyone, were brand new to the sport and after reading the rules for the upcoming cynosports event I read that only one handler is allowed on the dock. Do they not allow someone to hold the dog if he's to excited? I'm a bit concerned because my dog is a 2 year old is extremely hyper. Can anyone elaborate on this for me.

Thanks!

We do only allow one person on the dock with a dog during a competition. You are allowed extra people during practice time. If you are a junior handler (under the age of 16) you are allowed an adult on the dock if needed.

We have this rule as it is a team sport and while there is little training required to participate, it is a requirement that you be able to control your dog and if you desire to use a stay as part of your technique you need to be able to train this.

Let us know if you have any more questions! It's great you're getting involved in this fun sport! I'm sure with some practice on your basic commands and especially on stay you'll be having no problems on the dock at all!

You can only have one person on the dock with the dog at a time.
There are different techniques you can use if you have issues with your dogs sit stay. You will find that is common. I know myself how hard it can be to handle a dog on a dock that is extremely excited. My little one goes crazy!!! Come out, have fun, give it a try and don't worry. You will have a blast. =)

Bring on the hyper dogs! Don't worry we have a few other hyper and clown type dogs who just love being on the dock. You and your dog will have a blast and all the hyper energy might land a huge jump. The dock is also a great place to reinforce sit\stay commands.

Yes it's a great place to practice the sit/stay command if you don't have a stubborn dog like Sadie.....she will never let me forget the sit/stay command I practiced with her on the last day in SanDiego...I made her practice so much sit/stay without jumping.....when it came time to jump she decided to mess with my head and do just that...she sat and she stayed..... :-)

She is a charactor and told me that she is there to JUST HAVE FUN.....so who cares if she sits and stays.....she is having FUN and that is all that matters......

Come out and have fun........

If there were to be an award for the dog that broke the sit/stays on the dock it would be MickeyD hands down. So don't worry about it at all! Just have fun!

Also, right now the way we've somewhat trained him, is he sits with me next at the front of the dock and I throw his toy from the back into the water, he sprints down the dock and jumps. Can I do this at the Splash Dogs event? I know a lot of ppl get good results from throwing at the end of dock but we haven't perfected that method yet and usually get poorer jumps
