View Full Version : Marilyn Barrett Is Back In the Hospital
Chase

Marilyn had another back surgery yesterday. Yes, it is her THIRD one!
They had to go in and replace the ruptured disc this time, so she has to start the whole 3 month recovery period all over again. Anyway, she is fine...a little fed up with the whole ordeal...and just wants to get back to work and a normal life.
She still intends to be in Scottsdale at Cynosports in November, but she will now need help with Phoebe and Dunkin. Her husband, Marty, is coming with her, but he has never jumped the dogs. She hopes to be able to throw the dummy (and chicken) for Phoebe and Dunkin but does not know if that will be possible or even if her doctor will allow it. And, if she is well enough to do so, she will obviously need help getting them up onto the dock.
If she is not able to handle the dogs, she would love it if Brian and anyone else coming to the event would be willing to jump her dogs for her. She feels so guilty that they have had to sit at home doing nothing all these months, and she really wants them to get a chance to get wet and have some fun in Scottsdale.
Anyway, just giving you all a heads up, in case you would be willing to jump her puppies for her at Cynosports.
Thanks.

Brooke:
Jim will be more than happy to help! We have just bought a 34' motor home so if Marilyn gets tired she can come and rest in the motor home. My back was the main reason for this purchase so I can relate to how she is feeling. Please give her our best and our continued thoughts and prayers are with her.
Hugs!

Well Sadie and I just returned from the hospital seeing Marilyn. I surprised her with the four legged visit from Sadie, which she said just made her day....
She actually looks great. She said she had them stop the morphine this afternoon...she was getting headaches and sick to her stomach...so she has had enough meds...at least the morphine for now....
She says she is feeling pretty good.....and as Brook says she is looking forward to Cynosports....Marty thinks he will be able to throw for the pups but I'm sure would had off that title to someone else if need be :-) I told her not to even worry about that...we are all there to help where we can and do anything that she would need. (family sticks together)
We will probably go back to see her tomorrow night or Sunday after training so I will let everyone know how she is doing then.

Marilyn.
I hope you can recover in time to be able to play, but you don't even need to ask me, just tell me when and I'm there. Just relax and do what needs to be done for you to be back around to your old self. Take care and we'll see you at Cyno.

Hi all,
Just sending an update on Marilyn....talked with her tonight and she is going to try to talk Marty (her husband) into taking her this weekend to Lancaster, even if it's for a couple of hours....she really wants to go.
She sounds great, having some pain in her legs, but doing awesome......

Tell Marilyn to please take it easy and not over do it :(
I am really hoping she can make it to Cyno and would hate to see her miss out on the worlds because she tried to do too much too soon :(
Marilyn, I have been praying for your speedy recovery so everyone will get to see you and your kids back in action!!!!
Please be sure you are fully ready to play before your first trip back to the docks :)
Hugs!!!!

Hi everybody!
Once again, thanks for all the well wishes. I've had a tough time after this surgery cuz I got atelectasis in my chest(partial collapse of my lungs) due to the surgery and also got a blood clot (DVT) in my RT calf so have new challenges to get rid of. I've got a breathing machine and now feel fine and so have been walking as much as I can. I won't know about the clot for another 6-8 weeks. I'm on coumadin so I'm hoping it will be gone for the next ultrasound. Marty has been taking me to the park so I can get stronger and be able to walk around at Cyno. However, the bad news, I saw the doctor yesterday and he said No Way could I throw in the competition at Cyno. My back needs more time to heal and that means no bending or twisting. Looks like I will need others to handle my dogs. Brian, if you're serious, I would love to have you handle Phoebe. We can email privately to work out the times you're available. Marty said he would throw for Dunkin but I could always use some extra handlers for him, too.
Sandra, I may take you up on resting in your RV. I appreciate the offer, believe me, I'm going to need the down time if I want to make all day all 5 days.
Anyway, thanks agian for all the well wishes and I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at Cyno. It looks like I'll be volunteering for retail this time :)

Marilyn,
I will be there all 5 days so sign her up for as many waves as you would like.
Don't sweat the small stuff at Cyno, just rest and take of yourself so you can make the trip and everything else will be taken care of.
We will be hoping for a speedy recovery for you Marilyn and we'll see you at Cyno.
Urs- I guess your right I do seem to have a pattern in helping all the damsels in distress.

Marilyn:
We ended up not getting the motor home....long story. I guess after I realized it would get 6 miles to the gallon I could not sleep at night! I know several other people who are bringing/renting motor homes so I know someone will step up and let you rest in theirs. Or maybe I will just take you back to the Doubletree and we will lay by the pool! I can hardly wait to see you and give you a hug! Take it slow and easy, heck I still am!
Hugs!

Marilyn,
Hope you continue to rest and take care of yourself. From someone who's had my share of surgeries (only on my knees thank goodness) I know the down time can really help. Take things slowly and take advantage of the great people in our splashdog family to help you out. IF there is anything I can do, don't hesitate to ask.

You are now designated an official Splashdogs World Championship Cheerleader. Sandra is the team captain and she will order your uniform and pom poms. Don't forget your megaphone because certain dogs have a hard time hearing on the dock.

Hi guys
Oh, goody, an official title! Boy, gotta get a megaphone cuz I do know how some of our dogs don't listen up on the dock. Maybe I can holler "stay" instead of "yeah" :-)
I'll be sure and check in with Sandra once I'm there
Marilyn
Ps. Craig, put me down for one for the dinner. I'm going to go with Cindy and Marty is going to stay with the 'kids' at the motel.

Hey Marilyn,
Please be careful hollering "Stay" when Sadie is on the dock...we all know how well she listens since San Diego on the sit/stay obeidence training...
:-)
Just teasing you......you can holler anything you want to...... :-)
P.S. We will have a great time at the dinner.......
