Just curious... where do you think the most dog friendly community is and why? Where would a dog love to live?

Just to let you know the Salt Lake valley in Utah, and the rest of the state is definately one of the least dog friendly areas in the world. In my whole city, there isn't a single park that allows dogs, even on leash; it's terrible. Christy was once walking Salix on leash on a track at at city park, and was approached by a police officer and threatened with a ticket. Around here the best I've found is Boise, Idaho. It's very dog friendly. Reno's great also. You guys don't know how good you have it...

Portland, Oregon!!!!
We visit my daughter there all the time and I tell you there is almost nowhere that dogs ARE'NT allowed...
There are also more doggie day care centers there and they are always full! My daughter would have the hardest time finding a place with an opening for her pug.
Every eatery has outdoor patio seating on the sidewalks and everyone just has their dogs sitting at their feet while they have their coffee...
I want to move there when I grow up *wink*

San Diego is not dock friendly. There is one place that most of us practice but it is illegal to be there.

Do you all have any suggestions in the southeast US? I will tell you Orlando, Florida is NOT dog friendly!! I've been here my entire life. My neighborhood was zoned agricultural until about five or six years ago, and now I've got animal control on my back constantly to "conform with progress." I've lived on my one-acre property for nearly ten years. They've built three new homes around me that were previously woods, and the new neighbors complain about my dogs barking. My complaint is that my privacy has disappeared!! And my dogs aren't the only ones barking. Almost everyone in my area has been there since the 1960's or 1970's. When I moved here in 1998, I was the first new neighbor in 20 or 30 years. It took awhile, but they realized soon enough that we mind our business and leave others alone. In the last year they built three new homes. Suddenly we are surrounded on all sides!! I've been contemplating a move a lot lately...but where???

We lived in the Clearwater area for about 10 years and saw the same thing. As more people moved in more restrictions followed. We used to take the dog swimming in Tampa Bay at the local park, but they put a stop to that.
We have a nice yard here in Atlanta and there are quite a few dog parks in the area. I think this area dog friendly in that respect.

The Dallas area is fairly dog friendly...lots of dog parks and the like. We live north and east of there, in the country:)
So far, no problems but the growth will be upon us soon:(
I have run into the issue of homeowners insurance being hard to find if you have certain dog breeds!
This really gets my hackles up! I did find good insurance with Farm Bureau but all of the big names are asking too manhy questions about our private lives...like what dog breeds we have. Do they not know that a chihuahua is more dangerous than a rottie?
I believe we should push for lower insurance rates if we have any dog breed that is trained/ you know like good driver perks?
All trainers out there might want to look into local legislation because at this time New York and Florida are pushing for no mastiff breed dogs allowed in the state. One day we will awake and find that we no longer have the right to have just any breed of dog.

Well FL Fort Myers/Bonita Springs area is dog friendly. There are several off lead county parks, a new one just opened in Estero, there is one in Cape Coral, and one in North Naples. There is also an off lead dog beach in Bonita Springs. Dogs are allowed on Fort Myers Beach as long as they are leashed. And ............ we have a dock diving club right in Fort Myers with an official dock! Splashdogs just had an event at our pond in November. And, we can jump year round!
Also a vacation tip :D
Key West is very dog friendly, we take Casco there on vacation quite a bit. Casco has a blog on her myspace: ...myspace.com/calicasco I've attached a copy below!

This is the dog friendly rental company! My November vacation we stayed in the Half Moon Hideaway, a small efficiency close to dog beach and we also got to stay in a two bedroom house called the Leeward Isle ......
but this vaca we stayed at the Mallory Efficiency which was perfect! and yesterday there was a cool golden retriever and a chow so I didn't feel like a fish out of water!
The Duval Crawl was done twice! Takes awhile because a lot of people miss their dogs at home and want to pet!!!
To the Boats! Snipes Keys with my female friend Pepper a black German Shepard 1 yr. old and a pug that had to wear a life jacket to swim
The Dog Beach 2 times (much smaller than the one at home but who cares! I got to run with my tennis ball!)
Resaurants & Bars that I went to:
Cowboy Bill's
The Conch Farm (this is the place to go after boating all day)
Croisants de France ( my people love to eat breakfast there and I am allowed to come)
Turtle Krawls
Half Shell Raw Bar (lunch with mom)
Schooner Wharf (bar)
Willie T's (sat on the bar stool again, very cool)
Alonzo's at A & B Lobster House (I got to sit under the table while my people got to eat again!)
The Tree Bar at Rick's
The Bull
The Lazy Gecko (just for a second until we ran into some friends from home)
Bogarts (that was in November but tons of fun, I got to run around offleash and nobody yelled unless I ran out of the bar! but i was just going to poop!)
Dog Friendly rating on a scale of 1 to 10 ............. 11
Man am I wiped out!! what a great vacation, I strongly recommend.
