Our sweet Missy was hit by a car the evening before Thanksgiving this year. She was an indoor/outdoor kitty, used to hunt mice and birds and bring them home 3-4x's a week, most of the time she would leave the mice scared and alive. She'd bring them home for Vandal and Twizzy to chase, seriously, she would actually sit there until the dog saw it and would jump up on the table and watch the dog in the heat of the chase. Maybe she thought they were amusing as she caught them w/ease and they had such a hard time, I don't know.
I haven't grieved this much for a cat ever. She was a once in a lifetime kitty, the most special cat I've ever owned. She thought she was part dog, would take walks to the park and play w/our dogs, went for car rides w/us, slept in our bed w/all the dogs and of course played in the house w/the dogs. The topper was the cleanings and licks, yes, she would clean you whenever you picked her up, cheeks, nose, eyebrows etc.
Missy and Vandal came to our home w/in a few weeks of eachother, Miss Jiff came in last August and Vandal last September (2006), they were two weeks apart in age. Missy and Vandal were very close. I have several shots of them being caught in the act of their crazy games....
We have another cat also, but he definitely does not find the dogs at all intriguing, basically he deals w/them being in the same home as him.

Awwwww, I am so sorry! It hard when bad things happen to special animals..
I would Just Die if something happend to our Black Cat Josie (In Picture). SHe is a Special cat. Defenatley thinks she is a dog and not a cat. :)
Her and her sister were orphans and we took them in @ 2 weeks old. At the Time our Rottie was 7 months old. He totally took over and was their Mommy( Not Expected by him what so Ever), cleaned themand Nurtured them all the way. All I had to do was feed them, If he could have he would.
I know I have pictures Somewhere, Just have to look for them..

Sorry Urs for your loss. She definitely sounds like a wonderful, sweet kitty. I imagine Vandal misses her very much; what a special friendship they shared. You were blessed to know her.
I love these dog/cat friendship stories and pics.

That is so sweet about your kitties and your rottie, I would love to see them.... I too adore seeing the pics of the dogs and cats. They really can live in harmony.
Yes, Vandal and Missy had a very close relationship, our other kitty Tigger was also hit pretty hard by the loss. But we're all doing better now.

Urs,
So sorry for your loss but glad to hear you and your family are doing better.
I still miss my cat and it's been more than 4 years since he passed but with the special ones you just remember how much they brought to your life.
Here's to a Happy New Year.

Me too Urs. I think we all know how special animals can be. All we can do is open up our hearts to the next one that needs us. And since you have such a big heart, I am sure lots of animals will benefit from your kindness again! :)

aaahhhh, you guys are so sweet. Even though it is a painful loss, I am so glad we had the chance to have her in our lives, as we are with all the pets we've had over the years.
They really do bring so much joy to our lives!

Except this one... we call her EVIL EMMA for a reason, and I think the look pretty much says it all (I'm only teasing, she brings so much laughter and humor to us... but she does have quite a lot of "cat-a-tude"!!!).... :D

she's gorgeous....
Is your other cat cross eyed or it was just a shot the camera caught? When I was younger we had a cross eyed cat named Cashmere, gosh did he give the funniest looks in pics....too cute.

Thanks! Evil Emma came to us after she came down with feline distemper and spiked a 108 fever (normal for kitties is no higher than 102). I was doing some volunteer veterinary work with a no-kill shelter and she was the runt and last one alive from her litter. I don't know how, but I was able to put an IV catheter in her teeny little arm and I got up every hour to give her IV fluids (she was a little over a pound at the time, and the slowest IV rate was too fast for her, so I had to do it manually). We joke that she used up some of her 9 lives during that time and she is making up for it now by being so full of it. ;) Her disease stunted her growth, so she is a whopping 6 pounds, looking very much the kitten, so somehow it all seems to make sense.
The kitty in the background I got from the same no kill shelter. Again, little feral kitten with a nasty upper respiratory infection. She barely made it, but she is a big fatty and is sweet, sweet, sweet. Her name is Abigale, and she LOVES the doggies (I think I posted her picture with them earlier in this thread, but I will double check). She is completely cross-eyed. That makes two cross-eyed animals in our house, the other being our oldest lab Parker. Here is Abi in her glory, loving up the humans! :)

OK... last ones for a while...
This one is of Evil Emma.... sort of. I was trying to get my other kitty, Lily, hiding in the laundry (see background), but Emma, who must get into and investigate everything, had to stick her face in the middle of the camera at the worng time. This picture just makes me giggle. So classic of Em.

And this of my kitty, Alex, who just passed away a week ago, luvin' on the dogs in his younger days. He was one of my 'special' friends. Boy, did he LOVE the dogs! Another one of those cats that was a dog trapped in a cat's body. Miss that little guy.

Thanks Urs. We all do what we can, right? :) My job just makes it a bit easier to take the really sick ones, and in turn, makes me look better (but really, it only looks that way.... ha ha ha). ;)
