While we were jumping in Sacramento I asked Urs why does a dog go from 23-24 feet down to 16-20 feet. She told me she noticed in Scottsdale he actually jumped off the dock on one leg. We took him into the Vet this morning and they X-Rayed and had an Ortho consult the Vet just called and asked if about 6-10 weeks ago was the dog lame. We told him no we had noticed nothing but I did tell him of Urs's observation. Well he told us that MickeyD tore a huge muscle and that there had been massive bleeding into the tissues. He further said any other dog would have been completely laid up but because MickeyD is such a high drive dog and loves jumping he simply was compensating. Certainly explained a lot to us. Maybe that's why he was having so much difficulty sitting and staying this weekend (okay I know I am really stretching that one) The muscle is on the mend and at this point no further treatment (other than rest) is required. The Vet reminded us that warm-ups in this sport are essential to prevent this kind of injury. If we jump him again we will run/walk him and do short jumps prior to competition. I want to extend a very big thank you to Urs and Wendy for pointing this out as we had no idea.

Sorry to hear about Micky D's injury. It's amazing how stoic (sp) these guys can be when they have their minds set on something, i.e., jumping. Take care, Micky D, get better soon!

What a bummer. I am sorry to hear the bad news about Mickey D.
We always take a few laps around the venue before hitting the dock. Might i suggest a "Dale Carelli" for a while too.

Yes Bart when (and if) we go back it will definitely be a Dale Carelli.

Chloe sends MickeyD some big hugs and kisses!! But Chloe says MickeyD doesn't need to be so stoic just to try and impress her! She loves him anyway and knows he is an awesome stud!!
(I think Chloe is just horny right now!! Just started her heat cycle.) Maybe that explains why she wasn't quite up to par this last weekend!!
Give the Stud big hugs for us......and give MickeyD a big hug too!!!

Sandra, sorry to hear about MickeyD, but I know he'll be back and at em in no time. Believe it or not, Salix hurt his back end in Scottsdale also, and thanks to Urs and Wendy noticing it, he is feeling great. Winters with three feet of snow are great for resting these high strung dogs. Maybe you should send MD out for some R&R. See you soon.

Hi Sandra & Jim
Please tell Mickey-d we love him and to take it easy for awhile so he can feel better faster. It's amaziing what these dogs will continue to do even when in bad pain( remember Phoebe's back last year?).

Ginger, Julie & I are sorry to hear about Mickey D. I guess it just goes to show that dogs need warm ups too. Some of these dogs are such high energy it is so hard to keep them contained.
I am sure Mickey D will make a full recovery and be back to jumping soon!
