Any information on hotels or camping near the Pearland event?

Well, you will find the hotels in Pearland are not very pet friendly. There is a LaQuinta in Pearland which will take pets, but for a pet under 25 lbs., there is a $25.00 pet deposit (I remember your dog is way less than 25 lbs.) If your pet is over 25 lbls, there is a $50 deposit. LaQuinta in Friendswood will not take pets over 40 lbs. and I forgot what their pet deposit was. The Best WEstern, from what I understand after speaking with them, is giving a 15% discount, but they charge $20.00 per pet per night, non refundable. LaQuinta in Stafford (about 20 miles) welcomes your pet. I have actually stayed in this hotel in Stafford several years ago for flyball and it is a nice hotel and has lots of ammenities close by. The LaQuinta in Friendswood and Pearland are franchise locations, so they can charge what they want to, which out of the norm for LaQuintas, I discovered after speaking with an acquaintance that is a manager of a LaQuinta. I've stayed at LaQunita for the past several years and never had to pay a pet deposit. There is a campground, Almost Heaven, in Manvel, not too far from there. I have checked into that as well. Believe me, I spent several hours on the phone, internet checking out hotels. There is a Red Roof Inn by Hobby Airport, which I've had friends that have stayed there and said it is OK to stay in. They do not require a pet deposit and I believe that hotel is within 10 miles from there.

I do remember you, I also trained with Greg at Hearts and Paws. We are planning on being there and I believe Greg is coming also.

Let us know where you are staying. We are goin up on Friday morning from San ANtonio.
Good luck.

Thanks, that gives me a lot to think about. I am also planning on bringing my Border Collie pup along for hopefully her her first jump. You might remember her, the little blue merle and white, she was still very little, and was still a foster at the last event. She is almost 7 months old now and ready to play. Looks like cmaping may be my best option if I have multiple dogs. Anyone else out there with multiples have any suggestions. I traveled to an out of town flyball tournie recently and had to "only have one" to be able to find lodging.

Is there a motel 6 in the area? I don't know about texas, but in california/az they don't have a pet fee and while their official wording is that there is a one dog limit, I've stayed in a room with 6 dogs (golden retrievers - not small dogs) without an issue and at other locations frequently do 3-5 dogs in a room without a word from them.

I don't know about the Pearland area, but Motle 6's are pet friendly in texas as well. That was were I stayed and had to fudge it. Given I did speak with one of the receptionist, and it was the new owners that were being strict on the 1 pet thing. That was my first trip with multiple dogs, my others aren't athletic and are happier to stay at home on the bed. So i am learning as I go with multiple dogs now competing in dogsports.

There is a motel 6 by Hobby Airport. We've stayed at them a few times with 3 and 4 dogs in a aroom. Also the Red Roof Inn by Hobby Airport will take dogs. My friend that has stayed there for agility has 4 dobes and she hasn't had any problems with being there. The airport is about 10 miles or less away from Pearland. So far as other areas around, I've checked some of the hotels and they don't take pets. One can stay at one of the luxury hotels for $255.00 a night (LOL), they will take pets and one luxury hotel in Houston would even provide dog beds. For that kind of money, they should walk your dog as well.

Looking forward to the event and seeing old friends and making new friends.

I should be there with my BC pup for our first try at this. This is all providing that she takes to the training and likes jumping in ponds and such.

I will keep my fingers crossed!

Hey Everyone! I have missed y'all. We hope to open the dock the first part of April. Baseball will be in full swing then so I hope timing works out for us.

T and I are planning on making the trip to Pearland and I believe we will be staying at the Red Roof Inn. I know we will have Choco, but I don't know about the other 2. Hope to see everyone there!

Hey Debbie,

It will be great to see you guys. Marlowe and I are still plugging along.

Looking forward to the event. I do hear that the Red Roof is nice, like I said a friend has stayed there with her dobes (she has 4), so I'm sure your Labs will be fine. I just can't believe the LaQuinta there is charging that deposite and the Best Western charging a pet charge.

It will be fun. We were planning on staying at the LaQuinta in Stafford.

Looking foward to seeing all the new people that have been on the list as well. Should be tons of fun.

We made our reservations at Motel 6. They were a little less expensive, and are fine with multiple pets, no pet charge. Can't wait to see everyone and get the dogs jumping again.

I understand that the LaQuinta in Pearland is no longer charging a pet deposit. However, they only allow pets under 50 lbs, if anyone is interested in staying at this property. It is very close to the site.

See everyone in a few weeks (hopefully we can get some practice in somewhere before then).

Emily
Marlowe - give me a dock
Tuni - I may think about it
Norton - Just give me flyball and a couch

Hi all,

Hey in regards to a local club in the houston area, we were going to try and meet at the Pearland event, to discuss the details. Should we come up with a scheduled time and place at the event to meet?

I will be there on Friday sometime. We are planning to leave SA around 9:00 on Friday morning, going to the campground to get setup, then coming over to the park. Look for Maniac Marlowe (Golden Retriever) and me. We will be there all weekend. If there is some time maybe after the events on Saturday, we can have a discussion.

Looking forward to the event.:)

we will be there for the practice day...i dont think she will want to jump though. We have only practiced running into the ponds and havent had access to anything else.

I want to get together with you all about starting something up in the houston area so we can all start practicing and having more events. Should we meet up on the practice day. Lets set up an official time or something so we can actually have a real meeting and get down to business about this!

Foxglove - be positive about jumping. Tony and Randy are excellent (very experienced) at helping new jumpers. Its all for fun. I have several friends who have a blast and their dogs still won't jump. :p Even though they jump at the dock at home.

Since my dog Gandalf jumped at the last event in Garland, I believe any dog will jump given time and motivation. Gandalf jumped because her sister does and she wanted my attention.:) Too funny. A whole 5 inches. It was precious.

Look forward to meeting all the new teams.

Not sure about Saturday though.. all the people might set her over the top. (the most exciting thing in the world is PEOPLE...and she will just go crazy over everyone there lol)

You gotta start somewhere. We don't jump that far. It is the fun we have with our dogs and the sportsmanship.

As long as I'm having fun with my dogs, he can jump as little or as big as he wants.

The crowds love to watch it no matter what and it is not always the Big Jumpers they crowd remembers.

see you all in Pearland.

Is there any chance we might be able to start practicing a little earlier on Friday afternoon? If I remember correctly, I think it said the time was 3-7?? Any way we can come out a tiny bit earlier? I have Aeros (hockey) tickets right up to the glass and I have never been so I gotta try to make that game tomorrow night lol. I just want to get some practice in with her on Friday since she probably wont jump off the dock for Saturday since shes still in exit ramp mode, but we definitely need as much practice as possible!

Danielle- I just now realized who you are! We were at Iron Dogs camp as well, I had the crazy Sheltie who did not want to do anything else but agility. I also had a small bi blue Sheltie with me, but his co owner (the breeder) requested I send him back to her so she could put him in a pet home since he was not happy in a performance home so he is no longer with me.

Since then, I got a BC pup and she and I have had a blast together, she matches me perfectly so we are really looking forward to Iron Dogs this year!!

I can not wait to see how much Makena has grown!!! She was so small when I last saw her.

Ah-ha! I thought your Shelties name sounded familar. Makena's about full grown now, and has been a blast. We will see you tomorrow.
