Can someone give me--or point me to--a basic rundown on how Splash Dogs works? Such as what are the advantages or belonging to a club? I live in the greater Sacramento area and to my knowledge there is no club. How does one establish a club? How does one go about finding a dock? Etc. My dog jumped for the first time--as practice only--at the Sacramento Sports Show and he LOVED it!! I would be delighted to get very involved but I'm not sure how I can contribute . . .

Hi Diane,
Splash Dogs is a dog enthusiast company that sanctions dock jumping events. You do not have to belong to a club in order to participate or compete w/Splash Dogs. All you have to do is register either online or onsite at the event for any competition waves you wish to participate in and go for it!
As for forming a club, finding a dock etc....A few years ago I was in your same predicament. I found a few people online that were interested in my area (via one of the dock diving message boards). We were lucky that one of the ladies knew of a dock we could practice at for the interim. Once we found the dock, we scheduled a meet up and went from there, some of the original members moved on w/other sports and others continued on and continued to grow the club, we are now BADD.
When looking for a dock, you can try Google Earth and see what you find, I know we have found a few places using it.
I believe there was a group trying to form in the Sacramento area, however have not heard anything. I know there is a pond in Auburn that is open for dog use but don't much about the other docks in the area as I'm down in the SF Bay Area.
I know there are several people in the Sacramento area that jump - so try posting a message on the SD board about all Sacramento jumpers or something and you should see some interest pop up!
Please let me know if you have any other questions, hope this helps.

Yes we do have a pond in Auburn, however, when our dog park is completed we will no longer be able to use that pond due to the fact it is adjacent to the soccer field which has resulted in numerous complaints. On the brighter side when the dog park is completed it is going to have a pond and a dock for us to use. Go to www.ashleymemorialdogpark.com to view the map of our dog park.
