I have a question for some of you that I am just curious how folks wll handle. Pepper qualified for SV in SRS in Huntsville AL. There is an SRS event in North Carolina about 4 hours North of me. Now if any of you know Pepper you know how finicky he is about jumping and how quickly he gets tired. Now a person came onto our Georgia Forum recently and stated soemthings that really pissed me off, Luckily for me I didnt get to read it, our moderator deleted and he isnt the type to talk and tell(which I am happy about, Nothing worse than gossip) he did give me the basic run down and apparently this person thought I was going to jump in the SRS event and take a spot after I have already Qualified. I had already spoken to a good friend of this person and informed her that I would not jump if it was going to take a spot. Now I have been stewing on this for a couple of days and I have people telling me I should jump based on Peppers stats( getting tired) They are saying that this could cause Pepper to have to come in at lower than his normal starting height( in SRS you are only allowed 1 pass)Basically if all dogs agree to come in at 6'06 then that is the starting height for all dogs unless they use their one pass , but if 1 dog chooses to come in at 6 ft then all dogs have too, again unless they use their pass. I am just curious to see what everybody else thinks or what they would do. I am not gonna mention any names, I dont want this to be personal but I want opinions. Something else to take into account, this will the closest event to me so far this year, and the great prizes that SRS gives you.

It doesn't really matter if you are already qualified. If you take first place at this event and are already qualified than the spot will got to second place.

Hi Brian,,,
That is not how the SRS plays.... It does not go to the next person/dog. they take the three q from each event.
Jake/Pepper will be taking a spot from someone else. Jake also said he was going to attend a UAD event in the same weekend..

So why would they not give the spot to the next person if the one who wins already has a spot? That doesn't really make any sense. So that person who wins twice gets two spots? I don't get it!

SRS is different......
Yo Jake you might want to think about training from 6 ft........ This is a game of Stamina per JT..... Dont worry Stryker is sitting on the Couch eatin potato chips.

Mellisa Peppers head almost hits the bar at 6ft if I could teach him to duck maybe it would work, I see lots of talk from everyone here but what would you do if you were in my situation, I am not the type of person to take a spot from someone, but teh more I think about it I am cutting my own throat here. Speak up ya'll. Stryker your mom isnt fooling me I know your eating Carrots or something, all you Californians are Healthy eaters.

lol Jake,
Stryker would not touch a carrot if you paid him! BEER yes Bon Bon and potato chip yummy....
Well,,,,,,
Let see what would I do? I dont train as it is... So I would stay home and have a cold one :o
But you already said you have UAD event that you are going to go to in the same weekend.
Do you realize that this is the last event for those handler and dogs to Q. there is no pre crown qualifier this year. Plus Fly and V have 2 less events. (Just how it works) You can jump at this event... There is no rule against that,,,,,
As for 6 ft......I dont know what to tell you... I had to do it!

Jake,
If you are going to be at the SRS Louisburg event anyway, why not just do what Blaine/Kita did in Huntsville. Pepper, Abby Jo, Doc, and Alex competed (and a few others) and then when the competition was over, the SRS crew let Blaine and Kita go up on the dock and play SV.
I remember the next day you told Grant and I that you and Blaine had stayed behind and hung out doing some more jumps. (We were too tired and went back to the hotel, so we didn't stay to jump with you guys). So you could still get in some jumps with Pepper on a regulation dock/pool and at an event- and without paying the steep entry fees, too- and not take up anyone's spot.
I think the SRS crew was grateful to Blaine for not taking up two spots and they had no problem letting him get his fun jumps in. The crowd got to see Kita do her thing, too. I know I'm grateful for Blaine's decision. If Kita had jumped in the SuperV competition, she'd have bumped Abby Jo out of the top 3. So I guess, just think about how it would feel to be that 4th dog if one of the top 3 already has their Crown invite, you know? I know you're a nice guy and I know how much you love to see any dog succeed in this sport and cheer everyone else on. So I think I know what you will decide to do. :)
As for your buddy Remi, he just had surgery and part of his tail amputated. Long story but it was really infected and he had to lose the end of it. I'm teasing Grant now and telling him that Remi will beat Alex in Vertical because he's a little lighter now without that extra tail. :)
See you soon!!!

Jake -
Seems like Whitney has a good solution for you. You basically want to practice Pepper and you would be able to practice on the dock & setup that will be used for the Crown. You also won't have to put up the money or take any other competitors place.
Look at you & Pepper qualified for 2 major vertical competitions. That is awesome. You must be very proud of Pepper.
Sandy
I would like to see Stryker eating Bon Bons on the couch. :) lol

Now we are getting somewhere, I had no intention of "taking a spot", I had told everyone that I was going and if there was a spot I would jump. I have had several people who said screw it you need to jump, its 4 hours away, big money, great prizes. Jeff and Ares are going and We wanna jump against them again(may sound strange but I want to jump against the big dogs (Ares,Alex,Abby,Reggie,Stryker,Nestle) this will help Pepper out, and help all of the other dogs out.The World Record will not get broken until 2 or 3 dogs get to the 7 six mark.
I understand fully that the person who said something has a good friend already Qualified, I too have good friends going (Blain,Jeff,Grant/Whitney, Mellisa( whom I have never met but I know damn well that dog gets Carrots and does aerobics in the am)This sport is about fun to me and alot of the fun is meeting new folks and seeing old friends. I know all of you feel the same way, so lets have fun and jump big. I cant wait to see you all at the Crown , this will be Pepper, Ares,Alex and Abby Jo's first crown, it is gonna be one helluva a show.
Ps I got a butt load of shirts with all ya'lls dogs name on em, I am not gonna apologize anymore because between work, lawsuit, house, Pepper eating pills like they wer jellybeans I have been busy as *#@$ I will get you all shirts at the events, Mellisa and Whitney you will be taking some back to your respective areas along with anybody else who is there.
See you all at the Crown and Hopefully Worlds, Good luck all and Whitney sorry to hear about Remi, like you said though she is lighter, you really do have 3 great vertical dogs.

Jake, I commend you! In this sport it basically comes down to RESPECT!!! and Good Sportsmanship!!!!!! Respect in the sense of putting yourself in the other competitors place or position for the time and effort they have put in for whatever the endeavor is!!!
I do believe this same senario did happen to a SRS competitor last year. Best of Luck to you and Pepper at the Crown!
Barb and Rock
Hah, Melissa I have NO doubt you have those beer photos!

Not sure why you threw that in there Barb. Just to be clear. I'm congratulating Jake & Pepper on being qualified for the SRS Crown and DD Worlds.
I was fortunate enough to get to watch the continuing duel between Jake & Pepper and Blain & Kita two weekends in a row. Both are awesome.

I am probably gonna have to leave b4 SV, in order to make the UAD event in Chantilly, its a 4 hour drive and SV gets over at 2:30 and UV starts at 6:30, I do drive fast but I got gas guzzler.I am counting on UV to be late, and Ares to win quickly(one big jumper). I will be ready to jump just in case there are only 2 dogs, but it is not looking good seems like everybody is going to this one.
Our Georgia dawgs are going to Molly, Sally Su and our biggest improver Dak. Dak wouldnt jump off of the dock last month now he is a 19 footer and had a speed of 27 mph from 20 ft. I gotta cheer them on. one more week
