I saw this in the Reno Paper and I am directing it to the Border Collie folks that love and are knowlegable re: the breed....
I received the following news from Connie with Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation regarding eight border collies in need of homes (see photos below):
The owner died in a remote area of Lassen County. It was a month before anyone knew. Many of the dogs died, many had to be euthanized. These are the remaining ones....
Here is further info from Judy with the Lassen County Animal Shelter, where these dogs currently reside:
These dogs will be adopted to ONLY knowledgeable people with BC experience. Reference required. All will need to be altered within 30 days of adoption. All are friendly but do require time to warm up to a person. Not dogs just anyone can just walk right up to and pet or love on. Friendly with our staff members but fearful with strangers. Not aggressive at all but will avoid contact until they know you. These dogs were working dogs first. Unknown how much training any of the dogs have.
The red/white male is the youngest at under 1 year old. The rest are mature adults, unknown actual ages. All have been started on cattle and have ran with a horseback rider while checking fences. All have spent their entire lives on a chain outdoors. All these dogs were in emaciated condition. They have fully recovered from their starvation now.
