To all outraged people:
It would be better for any interested parties to contact Sharon Lohman (no relation to me but a dedicated animal person like me) CP 209-769-2122. Her email address is slohman@pacbell,net I phoned Sharon this morning to get an update. AAARF took dogs from Merced County 3 years ago and I became acquainted with Sharon then. She is a lovely hard working and dedicated woman. She is with the only rescue group who has hung in with the Merced County Animal Shelter to try to make things better for the animals. She has all the details and can answer any questions people have. She wants to make this a win~win situation for the animals. There is no time for finger pointing and name calling. The situation is what it is and nothing is going to change that at this point. Government change is slow. The animals are the top priority so we all need to grab a box of kleenex, get the sobbing and the name calling over and then go to work to save as many as we can. The window is a bit bigger now. Sharon said they are looking at March 15th before the euthanizing will start, but maybe we can prolong that a bit with the right actions. The Merced County shelter is 40+ years old. Kennels designed for 1 adult dog house 4-5. Kennels designed for 1 small dog house about 10. Some can't make it to the food bowl often enough and lose weight. Some can not make it inside from the outside run area that is with each kennel because of overcrowding therefore they are out in the rain. Enough good food and medical care are practically non-existent. Look at Sharon's groups web site www.trailsofhappytails.org Her volunteers will be taking more pictures of the animals and posting them to this web site late this coming Tuesday. This will include the 25# and under dogs. In the meantime you can view animals directly off Merced county's site

If there is any animal you are interested in, write down the animal number and breed and email or call Sharon. Some of these animals have already got their ticket out and are waiting for transport.

Again, please let's make this a win~win situation. Later is the time to try to make changes in Merced County's procedures. There is no time for that now. Let's focus on getting as many out as we can before March 15th. Any one feel free to cross post my email and get the word out.
