Ranana,

In February, the Legislature passed a law enabling this change to be effected through the Health Department regulations (see below). It is a good idea for Arkansas pet owners to contact Dr. Weinstein and ask for an update on the progress of the change to the 3 year.

ARKANSAS PASSES NEW RABIES LAW--3 Year Law to be Set!

The Arkansas House (91-5) and Senate (35-0) passed a new rabies law authorizing the State Health Department to establish rabies vaccination schedules http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/assemb...asureno=HB1274 which will result in a 3 year rabies protocol for Arkansas dogs and cats.

Arkansas News 2/2/09 http://arkansasnews.com/?s=rob+moritz&x=0&y=0&=Go
"The senate also gave final legislative approval to House Bill 1274 by Rep. Pam Adcock, D-Little Rock, which would modernize the state’s rabies vaccination laws. Under the bill, rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats would be required every three years, rather than every year under current law."

This will not take effect until the Board of Health updates their Rules and Regulations. I have been told this process takes anywhere from 6-9 months. Here is a link to the Board of Health website and information.

My understanding is that our attorneys will begin drafting the wording of the new Rules and Regulations, but I don’t know their time-line for submitting to the Board of Health.

Dear Susan Weinstein

I cannot thank you enough for all your work in getting the Rabies 3 year vaccine passed. Many of us animal lovers and animal organization really appreciate it. Please let me know when this 3 year vaccine will be in effect.
