Question Tonka Sprained her tail ?????

Tuesday morning when we woke up Tonka was really acting weird. When she would take a step she would sit down, it got to the point where she would not even walk. I took her to the vet, and he checked her back legs, they moved and didnt seem to be in pain. But when the vet went to touch her tail, she would turn away from him and even try to nip at his hands. He gave her a pain shot and an anitiinflamortory (SP?) shot, and sent pain pills and rimadall home with her. And said it looked like she sprained her tail at the base of it. It was a VERY long night, I was afraid to have her on the bed with me because of the pain shot and afraind she would fall off, so I slept on the floor with her in the front room. She was whinning and up every hour in discomfort.
With all this happening I was trying to figure out "HOW" she could have sprained her tail because Monday night she was fine when we went to bed. She had went to the groomers, and I did her advantix and we were at home the rest of the night.
Well, Wednesday morning Tonka seemed to be a bit better, but now she was winning when she went potty. She now could take about 5 or so steps without sitting down. It looked like she was favoring her left back leg as well. Her tail just viberates and shakes even when she is laying down and not moving.
So I took her back into the vet he said to give her a few more day, and see. The vet that was there said it sort of reminded him of "Swimmers Tail" but Tonka hasn't been swimming in a few weeks. They said it could be from someone pulling her tail or it getting caught in something.
Yesturday she seemed to be doing good, and walking better, now she has started to walk all hunched over like she was on Tuesday, and only able to take about 5 or 6 steps, and she is still gaurding her tail. She has even started to hug the walls as she walks.

I am taking her back into the vet on Monday, sooner if it gets worse. It seems like there is something else going on to me. Has anyone ever heard of this or seen it? It kills me I do not know what caused it. It just HAPPEN!!!

Thank you for reading ~ Deb & Tonka

aaah, poor Tonka...I hope she is feeling better soon.

Swimmer's tail and a sprained tail are very similar. I would think the only difference would be the addition of the water. They are also treated the same way. Hugs to Tonka!!!

oh poor Tonka! There is nothing worse then having your dog in pain and not knowing what is really wrong and how to make it all better. I wish I could help more but a big hug and kiss from me and Katie for her

Unhappy Bummer

Deb & Tonka,
Tinka is really bummed to hear about her little "sister", I can't imagine how scared you must be! I know I would be so worried to not know, especially that 'wall hugging' and the hunched up thing. Did your vet do lower spine x-rays? Blood work? Hopefully we all will hear from you telling us Tonka is A-OK. Take care, Tinka and I are pulling for you two.
