Default Newbie - a few questions

Our one-year-old Portuguese Water Dog, Barley, recently discovered the joys of doing flying leaps off the side of the pool after his toy. I took some video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAoet2VFfUA
and showed a few friends and they all suggested he should try dock diving. So here we are! The Vallejo event is close to home so we thought we'd try that, but are we TOO new? He's only done running jumps off the side of the pool and not from any sort of dock. Can we just register for practice one of the days at the fair and see how he does? Obviously we're BRAND new and are still trying to figure out how to even begin. )

Thanks for any help and guidance, I feel pretty clueless here!

From the looks of your video you might be over qualified to call yourself a newbie. Going into our labs first splash dogs event, she had never been in a pool, much less jumped into one. Just some swiming in the river. So you are already way ahead of the game.

Just make sure you take a look at the new comers guide in the upcoming events section of the website. Pay close attention to the part about starting them on the exit ramp, that part is very important so they learn where to go to get out of the pool.

I am going to try to make it to Vallejo on Thursday, maybe I will see you there. Best of luck.

Thank you!! I'm feeling much better now! We both have some time off on Wednesday, so we took the plunge (LOL) and registered Barley for the first wave that day. We'll be sure to get there plenty early enough to figure out what's going on. And if Barley just looks at us like we've completely lost our minds, we'll just cheer everyone else on.

Thanks again, this sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun!
