Loss of Cool Hand Luke
This was posted on LabradorsOnline and I know Dwayne and Luke participated in SplashDogs a few times. I thought some of the members here might want to send him some condolences. There is also a wonderful slide show tribute that Dwaynes daughter posted today on there.
"Sunday morning after taking Luke out for a run and some swimming I got back home and cooked breakfast for my family. After breakfast I went out in the back yard to play with the dogs and found my best friend dead in his bed. I am still in complete shock and feel like I am going out of my mind. Not to long ago we lost our Gracie while having her teeth cleaned and now this. My girls are so upset and there is nothing I can do to make them feel better. Luke was my best friend and I miss him terribly. Luke was always accident prone but always seemed to recover and before we knew it he was back to being the same ol' knucklehead that we all loved. My vet told me it was most likely a heart attack. Last summer Luke got away from a friends house when it was 105 degrees and got severe heat stroke. We thought we were going to lose him then but he seemed to recover for the most part. He was never the same with his endurance so I knew that the heat stroke had taken a lot out of him. My vet feels like the heat stroke incident may have dammaged his heart.
I miss you Luke."
