Default Well wishes for Greg Abner aka: "The Voice"

For us "oldies" in this sport we can all smile when we think of "The Voice" of Splash Dogs and his funny (ok sometimes funny) jokes that he told in between announcing. For the "newbies" in the sport all I can say is you really missed out if you never heard this man announce. Greg is one of the most caring individuals God has ever put on this earth. When you and your pup were on the dock he made you feel like a Rock Star! Let me tell you he had done his homework. He new everything about your pup and maybe some things you didn't want him to know! You and your pup became "family" to Greg. Well I could go on and on but I think you get the idea.
Greg is currently in the hospital in San Francisco battling cancer. Please include Greg and his wonderful family in your thoughts and prayers He is at Cal Pacific Hospital 2333 Buchanan St. SF. 94115 in Room 667B. Let us all ralley for him as he has done for so many of us. Brenda, his charming, dedicated wife, is at his side. Please, no phone calls at this time.
If you have a story to share, please do so as I am sure Brenda, Jr. and Becky will read them to him.
We love you Greg and pray for your recovery.

Greg was there for us in the beginning too. I will never forget him telling me and posting to the boards that Nevada would soon sore to high heights if I got her trained to leave at the end of the dock. He was there that day at the Bark in the Park (Nevada's second time on a dock) when I was working with her stay at the end the dock. He said to me numerous times throughout the day that she was a champion in the making. I remember thinking he was nuts Boy was I wrong. I was so green and such a newbie but he saw something with her. I used to get so nervous on the dock in the beginning and Greg ALWAYS made me feel like a star with his witty humor. His jokes and comentating calmed my nerves. Love you Greg. I am praying for you to beat this. My love and strength to you Brenda, Jr. and Becky.

I spoke with Beckie this afternoon and Greg was resting well this morning prior to going into surgery. As always, the love and support from those in the dog sport community is very much appreciated by the entire family.

For those in the Reno area: There is a fundraiser to help with Greg's medical bills this Friday September 10, 2010 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Sparks Philly Cheesesteak at 2181 Pyramid Way, Sparks, NV 89431. When you purhcase your dinner, let them know you are with the Vahenga party and the restaurant will be donating 15% of the sales toward Greg's medical bills. It's a great opportunity to enjoy a great meal and help the Abners!

Thanks!
Liz
