we are thinking about trying super vertical if i can add that on friday if there will be enough room for us to give it a shot.

Getting in on Super Vertical is usually not a problem from the events I have been at.

Have you tried this yet??

no we haven't done it yet. we have been working on things we learned in practice and he is showing he *may* have an intrest in super vertical. we are not allowing jumping as we do not have a pool.

at very least maybe if he trys out super vertical it may help him get distance. not sure he will place very well but think it may be worth a shot to try out?

With super vertical, the toy is suspended 8 feet out over the water. So normally, the dog needs to be able to jump about 15 feet or so, so that 8' is the peak of their jump. After having said that, there was a phenominal dog at nationals, who was jumping about 8' in big air, yet went all the way into the low 7's (height) for SV. It was amazing to see.

SV is normally very accomodating to newbies; that's how we started. Getting in some practice Friday after big air would be very helpful, but you can also start training for it on the ground. Attatch a favorite toy to a broom handle, painter's pole etc, and get Peanut jumping up and reaching out for a stationary toy. Getting that down will greatly help your transition to the dock.

Peanut hasn't been jumping that far yet but i think that if he starts getting some lift (which i am hoping that doing this may help him with). he has a strong toy drive. i have been working on teaching him to look up for his toy and at home he is doing pretty well with this, now on the dock that may change but i would like to give him a shot at a new event and expand his enjoyment on the dock and in sports. i am not expecting him to be great at it i would just like to see if he would like to try something new. never know what he may be good at or will enjoy.
how do we practice at the dock? do we ask someone while we are there?
we are going to be there for sure friday and saturday sunday if we qualify for finals

i am nervous about trying out for super vertical so i definately appreciate any tips or tricks

i am the one with the red brindle pit bull (he is people friendly but not dog friendly)

Don't be nervous about SV. It's really fun and once they get the idea, they really love it. And, like you said, it is a great way to get some "POP" into their jumps!

On Friday, there should be some SV practice time after the last splash of the day. They will set up the apparatus, and let people practice, and if they need help, they will be there to help you. Ursula is great at giving advice, and she will be there. I'd start out playing with the SV bumper in line with him, holding it out, by the strings. Then, put it on the pole while in line, so he remembers how to grab it from something other than you. When you get on the dock, keep it on the pole that you hold, and once he's taking the leap of faith off the dock for the bumper, you can start attatching it to the apparatus. You don't need to start out with lots of running room, just at the dock's edge. If they don't have confidence, then they stop at the end, and they don't use the extra space anyways.

Hope this helps. That's how we started out at an event, so that's how we know to get them jumping. We will be there bright an early on Saturday AM and will stay for Sunday. See you there.

i have to say i am very excited to try him out with a new event. he has springs on his feet at home when he wants something. just the other day we were out just to play fetch and i was holding his ball over my head and he was jumping face height to try and get it from me.

i am worried that he is going to get up there and either not jump off at first he will sit there and make his raptor sounds for a minute then finally jump off. the first time i don't know he is going to grab the bumper. if he does that will he get a second chance to come back and try again?

i hope we get to practice friday night we are BRAND NEW to this event and could definately use the practice and help or pointers.

Just wanted to say we had a GREAT time! we had fun seeing Peanut make huge improvements jumping into a new division and try out a new event in SV. Though he did not do well this time I think with a little practice he will get it in July at bass pro

It was super exciting that Peanut got his new PB of 11'2"! We were so proud of him

he got a few strawberries extra for that

We also had fun seeing everyone again and seeing every one else's dogs doing great and even a few new PB out there.

Can't wait to see everyone again in July!!! We are definately looking forward to Bass Pro
